What's the matter with the name Nellie? It's a very old fashioned name, quite popular among the current grandparent/great-grandparent scene. I actually really love the name.

I like Nellie- as a nickname. I don't like it as the whole name. I don't like any nickname for a whole name- like Danny or Nick. It should be Daniel or Nicholas, making the full name a nickname just seems halfhearted and lower-class. If you want to call your kiddo Nellie, how about naming them Helen or Eleanor? I love the nicknames Joey and Joe- so I named my son Joseph :-)

I mean, I know a lot of people have been named "Nelly/Nellie" but it's still just a form of Helen or Eleanor. I wouldn't choose it personally because it sounds young and nicknamey to me. I can't imagine a congresswoman with the name Nellie. Nelly Bly and Nelly Sachs were both nicknames for other names, and the most famous Nelly I can think of is a pop singer. :-/
I can easily see a Helen or Eleanor as a congresswoman: ("But my friends call me Nellie!") Does that make sense? I mean, I don't look down on those who would name their child Nellie, but I sure wouldn't!
