Just a quick "opinion" question. My boyfriend's brother is currently in the hospital right now because his girlfriend is in labor. They've decided on the name Milo James. I hate the name Milo, but really liked James with it. What are your opinions on this name? Thanks for any feedback. :)

Honestly, I think Milo sounds cute for a baby/kid but when he starts getting older ... I don't think it's the best name ever.

I really don't like it, never have. It doesn't have a nice sound to it, and it makes me wonder where Otis is, as corny as that may be. James is nice, a little overused, but still a classic.

Hmm not a big fan either, there's just something about it. End up thinking of Catch 22, and the dog in 'the mask'.
Much prefer Miles.

Though the combo itself works, and there are worse things.

hah Milo is my cats name too!
Ill forever associate that name with cats/animals in general thanks to Milo & Otis, so I wouldnt use it for a person myself.

I love Milo. It's the name of the lead character in The Phantom Tollbooth, a fantastic book.

The Phantom Tollbooth.. that really rings a bell. I think my dad used to read it to me when i was little-

hmmm.. something about a car & time & there's a bit about words in a dictionary? (i know thats really vague, but i was really young!) If it sounds like the right book could you let me know & tell me the author, i'd love to read it again :-)
ahh... i had forgotten all about that book!

Honestly, all that is really impoortant is that they love the name. It's their baby.

If you get close to the baby and end up having a special bond with him, Milo could take on a whole new meaning for you. You may end up loving the name after all. I know that doesn't seem likely now, but you never know.

Incidentally, I do like the name. I'm in favor of people being a bit original.

Cute for a kid, when he's an adult he could just go by "Mo" or something...

It could be worse?

I dislike Milo, because of the Milo & Otis thing. Someone mentioned Miles, I think I like that better. But I love James, and I think that they sound good together.

I think it's very cute name.. but i wouldnt use it as i dont tend to like names that can't be shortened easily to something nice..
I've even gone so far as to call my brother Max, Maxwell..even though that's not his real name! I just like affectionate shortening (or lengthenings!)

Heh, I do that too. My brother's name is John and I always call him Johnathan....or Jonnerfen. He hates it ;)

I don't really like Milo, namely because I'm in the south and there's a BIG thing about Milo's sweet tea down here. I'd never be able to call anyone Milo without thinking about tea. I've also never, ever met anyone named Milo down here. :) Of course, the name itself isn't too bad, it's just the associations. He can always be called James later on if he wants to.

I read a list on here once where a person used the name Milo, and I thought it was cute when they did it because they paired it up really well. But normally I would never like that name because 1. Milo and Ottis
2. The chocolate drink. 3. That comedy skit with Milo.

Here in Australia, you couldn't be called Milo. It is a common powdered drink that everybody knows. For hot drinks, people pretty much offer "Tea, coffee or milo?"
