[identity profile] sballik.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Once again I'm stuck on middle names, and could really use some help.  We want the baby to have two middle names, one from each family.  Last name is LaPointe.

Sibsets aren't a huge concern for me, but for what it's worth, our first son will either be Ryan John Frederick or Ryan Frederick John (probably the first.)

I spent a fair amount of time compiling girls' names yesterday after Jeff said he was second-guessing Claire.  He then went through my list and crossed off the ones he didn't like (there were a lot, which I expected) and left:

Madeline
Hailey
Chloe ?
Avery ?
Morgan ?
Kailey **
Kelsey
Kirsten
Allison ?
Paige ?

Ones with ?'s are names he didn't dislike, but didn't know if he liked, either.  Kailey got two checkmarks, which I assume means he loves it.  (I'm still debating on whether or not I'm sold on it.)  I like all the names, but I definitely prefer some over others - still, I don't want to tell you which ones, because I might fall in love with a specific combo.

 My family
* Sydney (grandpa on mom's side)
* Lynn (middle name that runs through mom's family; aunt on dad's side)
Josephine (grandma on dad's side; sister on dad's side)
Rita (grandma's middle name)
Dorene (grandma on mom's side; my 2nd middle name)
Susan (mom's name)
Edith (great-grandma on mom's side)
Lea (my middle name)
Margaret (great-grandma's first name, but she went by her middle name, Edith)

Jeff's family
Joan
(his mom)
Bernice (mom's middle name)
Blanche (grandma; I don't know his other grandma's name)
Margaret (his aunt, although we don't see her much)
Lynda (aunt, whom we see quite frequently)
Danielle (his brother's name is Daniel)

Go nuts :)

I only like Madeline & Chloe. I prefer Madeleine though.
The others are quite bland and dated.

Madeline Josephine Claire ♥

Wow, please don't do that.
Madilynn is really rather ugly.. you'd be botching a lovely classy name.

Why do you feel like you have to honour so many people? Family are important, of course.. but don't you think they should have their own name?

If it's most important to honour your Mum & Sister then I think you should choose an alternative first name and use Lynn as the middle.

I don't think there's ever a valid reason to get creative with a name.. it looks trendy and somewhat illiterate.

Are there no names that you are in love with that have nothing to do with your family?

I don't really understand this need to honour the family. I'm sure they know how much you love them without having to show them like this..
It would get a bit personal if I tried to do that.. My maternal Grandmother wanting to know why she wasn't honoured when my Aunt & paternal Grandmother was etc..

I'm not questioning your motives.. just trying to turn you off the idea of Madilynn by giving you an alternative view that's not biased to the -lynn.

This. When people see the name, they don't think, "Hey, I bet the name 'Lynn' runs in the family!" they think, "Wow, her parents were dumbasses."

I completely agree with this! "Creative" spellings are not actually creative; they remain derivative with the added drawback of being confusing or difficult to spell or pronounce correctly, which I have seen result in extremely embarrassing, or at the very least exasperating, situations, for the children involved.

I dont know why you have to honor so many people. Its really putting a damper on finding a lovely name that YOU like.

I dont mind madilynn. then again, I dont like the name and would never use it so I really don't care either way :P

Understood. its nice of you to do that. I am not close with my family, so they could take a flying frog leap at my butt if they dont like my future childrens names...lol

Do you mind if I do some digging? Perhaps finding names that have the same/similar meaning or different spellings?

Any chance I could see your list before your boyfriend dwindled it down? I wont if he see's a really nice combo if he'd change his mind.

Btw, I LOVE claire.

ps - I wonder how else you could honor your family besides using their middle names. Maybe ask them for their favorite names? using their "back up" names they didnt use for their children? I might be pulling ideas out of my butt, so if its annoying ill stop :P

I have to say I'm relieved he vetoed Isolde, Tegan, Bronwen, and Brianne, as I strongly dislike those name for a variety of reasons.

I'm not crazy about Deanna or Ainsley, either, but I think all your other names are wonderful possibilities, although I do prefer Abigail. Maybe he'll warm up to some of them again; I'm especially hoping for Olivia, Ingrid, and Imogen.

I like:
Claire
Madeline
Kirsten
Allison

Hailey, Kailey, Kelsey, Chloe, Avery, Morgan, and Paige all seem really childish and dated. I mean, they seemed to be popular on young girls in the 90s, and not only is it almost impossible for me to see them on an adult, they just seem so . . . blah. The other four are gorgeous, though, and sound awesome with Ryan.

Claire Sydney Danielle
Allison Josephine Blanche
Madeline Sydney Danielle
Kirsten Sydney Joan

I only really like Avery, Chloe and Claire from your first names.

My favourite combo out of the lists is: Avery Edith Danielle Lapointe.
The only name I think that works with Edith is Danielle and I really like Edith.

Other mn combos I can think of:

Margaret Lynn
Josephine Blanche
Rita Danielle
Margaret Lea

I love the name Bernice! I don't think it's used nearly often enough, so I hope you'll consider it as a first name. I also think Claire is a lovely, too-little-used name.

I do think Allison Bernice sounds lovely together, though, if you must Bernice as a middle name.

I strongly dislike Kailey and hope y'all won't use such a childish-sounding name.

Other combinations of your various names I like are:

Kelsey Danielle
Josephine Blanche
Margaret Paige
Linda Madeline

Sounds good. Glad to help. If you want, when you really narrow the first names down, I'll go through all the combos for you to help you find something that flows well.
