before DH and I got pregnant, we fell in love with the girl's name Evelyn Noel ( my grandmother's middle name and his mother's maiden name). Now we are pregnant, due around Christmas. (Yay! Baby!) we think the double meaning behind the name is cute, but my MIL says we should save the name for another baby cause it is too tacky. WDYT?

I'm due on Christmas so if I have a little girl its gonna be Grace Noel, I like Noel. I've always liked the name.

Katie Holmes (Dawson's Creek sweetheart) is named Katherine Noelle for being born on 12/18. But I don't find it tacky, considering it's just a middle name, and especially one you had picked out from before!! In your daughter's case, it could only a cute story to tell, about how you'd wanted to name her that, and that she happened to want to be born around that time ;)

That's one reason I'd be against to save it for another kid, it makes sense for this one right here!

I know three people with birthdays on Christmas or Christmas eve with the middle name Noel. I think it's cute though, especially if you were planning on using it anyway!

I think it's cute! :)

Besides it's your baby, name it what you want..not what MIL wants you to name it! ;)

If the name is special to you, I say use it. Who cares what your MIL thinks? She's had her turn naming people, now it's yours :)

Congratulations! Do you know if it's a boy or girl?

Especially since it's special to you, I would still use it.

I think it's a great name, and Noel as a middle name is definitely not tacky. If it was a first name, I could see the point, but you should go for it if you have a girl, because you could end up with a slew of boys and never get another chance.

If you love it, and it means a lot to you, go for it. Your MIL will get over it.

I think it makes it work a lot better. And it's a beautiful name!

It's definitely not tacky, especially with Noel as the middle name, and especially since you had it picked out before you knew your due date. But it wouldn't be tacky even if you were using Noel because of the due date. Besides, it's a really nice name.

I agree, use it. It's a pretty name, and as [livejournal.com profile] th3_unicorn says, it'd make for a cute story. :)

I knew a woman named Christmas, because she was born on Christmas. She just went by Chris. That was a bit over the top. But I think Evelyn Noel is a lovely name and I say go for it. It seems like it would have an even more special meaning for this baby than it would for any others.

It's not tacky.
Also, IT'S YOUR BABY! You could name her Christmahannukwanzica if you realllllly want. Nobody can stop you... your kid may just hate you later.

But really, Noel as a middle name (or Noelle) is a sweet idea for a Christmas baby. I know a Brian Nicholas who was born on Christmas (as in St. Nicholas). He's 21 and loves his name.

I love Evelyn Noelle, but Noel is too masculine to me. Although, I just remembered that Noel (as in the Christmas Noel) is pronounced like Noelle. I just would have a hard time pronouncing it No-elle instead of nol

its not like youre naming her mary christmas, or holly noel or kristen kringle or something, jeez! its just a middle name, and one you had planned on using anyway! this baby (if its a girl) is destined to be named evelyn noel, i think, otherwise why would she be due at christmas time? :)

seriously though, evelyn noel is really nice. my cousin is kristina noel and she was born right after christmas. stick with it, its a great name, and it fits perfectly.

I prefer the Noelle spelling on a girl, and it takes away the some of the blatant christmassy connotation. But then again, not my kid.

Interesting, because I've never seen "Noel" as a girls' name, only for boys and pronounced "nole". Like Noel Coward. I'm used to girls being Noelle.

You could actually use the entire name for a boy. Evelyn with a long initial "E" is a man's name as well, especially in Britain. Like Evelyn Waugh. (Funny story: he was married to a woman named Evelyn as well, and friends used to refer to them as the "he-Evelyn" and the "she-Evelyn"
