Hi! I'm new here! I've been making Baby name lists for as long as I can remember. My BF and I constantly talk about our future and having babies and he likes to think of names as much as I do! I can't find my long list right now (i don't feel like digging through the desk stuff right now!), so i'll give you our short list and you can tell me what you think! My name is Joelene Beverly Spence, Beverly is also my Mum's name so it would be nice to keep that. My Bf's name is John William Matthew Murphy, he goes by Matt - I really like the name William because its my Dad's name and Brothers middle name! On to the list...remember the last name would be Murphy...
Girls:
Layne Beverly
Lillian Grace (Lillian is my Grammas name)
Madison (Maddy for short)
Malinda (Mali for short)
Olivia
Moira
Marni
Alex(a)? He really likes it, but its not one of my most fav.
Elsie (Maybe as a middle name?)

Boys:

Max
Spencer (this is to carry on my last name in a way-but he hates it-"its a dogs name"

Mackenzie

So! A short list for the boys...help! We both think M names sound really nice with the last name, it just flows better, prolly why his parents called him Matt from the beginning rather than John.
Any other suggestions? I like semi-traditional names, with a bit of a twist!

I've only ever know Mackenzie's that are boys, personally I think being that it is originally a surname and being a strong name it suits a boy better, but thats just my opinion! I just really like it because my best friend growing up had the last name Mackenzie and I thought it would be a nice way to honour our friendship. And of course because I like the way it sounds with Murphy! But...I think its a loosing battle with my BF!

I really don't like Madison. It is SOOO popular and will likely be the Jennifer of this era. In combo with Madeline there are tons of Maddies running around. Also, Mackenzie crops up far more often for girls than for boys. Otherwise, some nice names on your list. :)

I think Lillian Grace is my favourite of all right now too! I love Olivia, but I agree its getting too popular, and yes it does matter! I loved being the only Joelene in my class! I'm not a huge fan of Jacob, not sure why! lol

I agree with both of you. Lillian Grace is a great name! I'm also not a big fan of Jacob, but I love Jake. I'm like that with a few names (the nicknames are nice but the full name just isn't my style).

I'm not that big on Layne, Madison or Alex, mostly because I know guys with those names. Malinda is cute. I know a few Malinda/Melinda's but they're mostly older. I loooove Olivia but it is a bit popular (though maybe not in your area?). Moira is nice but I personally don't think it flows too well with Murphy. Same with Marni, really. I use to be an "M. M." myself, so I like the combo (except for the M&M jokes), but not too big on those names. I really don't like Elsie, and can't think of a good reason why.

As for boys names, I like William and Spencer (which is so not a dogs name, but I've said that for other names so I can't really argue there). I'm not too big on Max, as I know soooo many Maxes (I teach 3 and 4 year old Sunday School and see lots of kids). Mackenzie, while it is technically a boy's name, is often used as a girl's name now. I really just don't like how it sounds. That and my old last name was McKenney so personally it doesn't seem like much of a first name to me. I do have to admit, though, that I like the nickname Mac that you can have with it.

i love the name max. it was my great grandpa's name, my grandpa's name, and is my cousin's name so it's kind of a family name. obviously i'm a little bias ;) , but seriously if it weren't in my family i'd still really like it.

I also adore Lillian Grace. I don't like Madison, Malinda, Mackenzie - Mackenzie may technically be a boy's name, but the trigger reaction of nearly everyone's going to be 'girl'.

I love Spencer for a boy. Really, I like all of your boys' names except Mackenzie, and I prefer Max as a nickname for Maximilian or Maxwell.

Lillian is one of my favorite names, and it's pretty with Grace. I like Melinda, but not Malinda. Olivia is pretty, and I like Layne Beverly.

The reason I have Elsie thrown in there is, again, because of one of my friends! I have grown up knowing so many Laura's and the one I am closest with and consider one of the strongest&smartest women ever is Laura C_, so we started calling her L.C. and it just got turned into Elsie to flow better. Now thats what she goes by with everyone! :)
Thanks for your suggestions too! I really like Elliott and Isaac, but I'm not sure if I like them with Murphy as a last name???
