Kaia (rhymes with Maia) is really pretty! It's a lovely international name that's managed to remain relatively undiscovered thus far here. Because of its similarities to other familiar names, it will be regarded as unusual while not being so far out that people will find it strange or hard to pronounce. It's a little mysterious, a little artsy, and is plausible as a name for someone in any profession.
Unfortunately, giving it a -lyn ending yanks it out of the "undiscovered gems" category and stuffs it unceremoniously into the formulaic "sounds to which people have tacked on -lyn". The whole image changes, and not for the better, I am afraid.
I like the name Caelan, which is somewhat similar, and could certainly be spelled similarly. I only like the C spelling, but I know it can be spelled Kailyn as well.
I think it looks like its jumping on the kay-anything bandwagon (kaya, mckayla, kayla, kayley, katelynn, etc), so it sounds like a super popular type name. Which is fine, if that is what you were trying to achieve, and it has a nice sound.
I'm sorry, I just re-read my comment and realized it might have come across in a rude way. I wasn't trying to be. I was just thinking that there are alot of other names that sound similar to this one. So if that sounded snarky, I'm sorry.
Maybe if you wanted to use this name you could split it up as Kaia Lynn (first and middle name). Then you'd have the option of using both names together or the simpler version of just calling her Kaia. Plus it might make it easier to pronounce, since there is an obvious break.
ooooh Caelan that's such a pretty name, i've never heard it before. Oh dear i hate finding new pretty names i like, it makes it so hard now i've chosen... oh dear me!

Date: 2006-01-30 03:08 pm (UTC)But Kaialyn looks made up and horrible. I agree with the people above who said that sticking a random -lyn at the end of a name ruins it.
