Hey all,

First post here.

Just out of curiosity, what do you all think of the name Georgia (for a girl, obviously!)? I used to HATE any female versions of George (ie: Georgette), and I don't like the name George at all, but Georgia is growing on me.

I sort of have a soft spot for a few state names, mainly Virginia and Georgia. I probably wouldn't use them, though. They seem awfully old ladyish.

Same here. Virginia is my grandmother's name & I would love to incorperate it somehow into my child's name.. mainly as a middle name.. but Virginia doesn't seem to work to well as a middle name. I went to high school with a really pretty, popular girl named Virginia who went by Ginny, but like you said.. I just can't get past the old ladyish-ness of it.

I think Ginny is kind of a cute nickname. :)

Yeah, those are the only two place names I like (at least off the top of my head).

They would've been names before those states were named though, right?

Paris was a name before it was a place, also.

Pretty. I wouldn't use it, but I don't dislike it either. It's grown on me since William H. Macy and Felicity Huffman named their daughter Georgia. I also used to talk to someone online whose little girl was named Georgia JingBin. They called her Gia for short, which I think is adorable.
Also, my dog's name is Georgette. Heh. I usually call her Georgie or Jory, though.

I really like the name Georgia. I was friends with a girl named Georgia last year and she was sweet, so I think highly of the name.

I do like it, but I would never give to a child - probably not even as a middle name - because of the state and country connection.

Don't feel bad, it's not really a big or important country (no offense to any Georgians out there!)

I worked in a child care center where a little girl was named Georgia. She was one and a half and it was such a cute name and adult name for such a little girl. The one thing I didn't like was that she was called "GiGi" a lot as a nickname.

It's not something I like enough to use myself, but it's pretty and I'd probably compliment it on someone else's daughter.

It's alright on the right person, but I don't really like it personally just because it's not my style.

Love it. I want to name my kids Georgia. All of them. Pets, too.

I didn't like it for a long time but now i do. I pronounce it george-uh, but i have heard it George-ee-uh. I don't actually like the name George for a boy so it's surprising i like Georgia.
