I like Piper, Morgan, and Robin... why are they guilty pleasures?

Date: 2008-05-03 07:41 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tryyingtoevolve.livejournal.com
Piper is too trendy and doesn't grow up well, I don't think. And while I love Morgan and Robin, they're much more common on girls than on boys (and I hate them both on girls). I'm just not a fan of unisex names, mostly because I think my kids are going to have enough problems from their peers when it comes to gender and sexuality due to their two moms without me giving them even more trouble. Which sucks, because I would totally use Morgan.

Thanks, that's where my dad was born. Unfortunately, I think Victoria and David Beckham named their son that, though I would use it for as girl as in "Brooke Lynn".

I went to school with a girl named Brooke Lynn, I always loved her name. I think V&D named their kid Brooklyn, too; I would hate for people to say, "oh, you named him/her after [celebrity]'s baby?" whenever they found out my child's name, so I'm ruling out a lot of names based on that.

Your top 5 names: we're really shortlisted, especially for boys...
girls
Claire Sydney
Elizabeth Dawn
Taylor Cadence
Kimberly Lynn

boys
Ryan Fredrick
Nicholas John
Benjamin Noah (Jeff has nixed this one cause he thinks I'll call him Benji...)

Family names you would consider using:
Brian (Jeff's mid, Dad's name)
Fredrick (pretty much every man in Jeff's family... seriously.)
John (Dad's mid, great-grandpa's name, grandpa's name)
Lynn (middle name that runs in the family)
Sydney (grandpa's name, only sp. Sidney)
Blanche (grandma's name)
Daniel (Jeff's bro's name)
Bryce (sister's mid name)

note: I'll only use family names as middle names, to avoid the Junior thing.

Literary names you would consider using:
Elizabeth, nickname Libby (from the Georgia Nicholson series, but not named *after* the series... lol)
Claire (from White Oleander)
there's probably more...

Pop culture names (names of a musician, actress, politician, etc) you would consider using:
Elizabeth (take your pick here...)
Claire (Danes)
Brendan (Frasier, only my brother is Brandon, so no.)

Place names you would consider using:
I cant think of any.

Names that you like the meaning of but wouldn't necessarily use:
Cadence means rhythm, and I love it. Jeff's not a fan, so I've talked him down to middle-name status. :)

Names that you would use except you can't stand the meaning:
Quite a few... I think Hayden meant hills, and that didn't do much for me. There's just a lot of really crap meanings out there.

Names you like but someone has ruined, so you can't use them:
Patrick. As soon as I mentioned the name, Jeff said, "Patrick Swaaaaaaaaaaayze..." (a line from Trailer Park Boys) That's a definite no.

Guilty pleasure names:
Delilah, Rosemary, Jonas... there's more. Jeff's not really into non-traditional names. I'm surprised he likes Taylor.
