I meant to join like AGES ago but kept forgetting to xD
But anyway yes I'm new xD I love names, and even though I'm not anywhere near having a child (I'm single lmao), I still like thinking of names for my future children.
My name is Megan btw, middle name Sarah. I don't like it AT ALL, it's too common. Mum & Dad told me Megan wasn't common when I was born (1987), but now I know like five Megan's. And it's funny cos my Mum's name is Margaret and I read that Megan is a variant of Margaret xD And my Dad's name is Mike, so all M's xD
I just wanted to get your opinion on a couple and list my fave names.
My cousin is having a baby in less then two weeks, but she doesn't know the sex. If it's a girl though, her name will be Imara. What do you guys think? Personally, I LOVE it. It's pretty, feminine and it's also one of my fave characters from the Weather Warden book series by Rachel Caine. If it's a boy, he will be called Shawn, which I also love.
And my stepsister has three kids - two boys and a girl, ages 12, 3 and 1. Their names are Johnson, Elijah and Chance. What do you think? Their name ends with 'son' so the oldest is Johnson ___son, poor kid >_>
But here's my lists... under the cut...
GIRLS
Joanne (this is my absolute FAVOURITE girl's name, I love it to bits <3. Jo is good as a nickname)
Cherise
Cheryl
Michelle
May/Maya (my cousin who is having the baby is named May xD)
Marion (kinda oldfashioned but I like it)
Kimberley (I don't like Kim though >_>)
Imara
Nicole
Natasha
Jenny (not Jennifer, I don't like Jennifer)
Maria/Marie
BOYS
David (my absolute FAVOURITE boy's name, it's common but I just adore it, I don't like Dave as a nickname though, just David)
Lewis (my second choice of name, love it)
Duncan
Lee
Jonathan (John is good too and so is Johnny)
Shawn (I prefer it spelt this way instead of Sean)
Daniel
Joshua (with Josh is a nickname)
Ryan (my other cousin named her son this)
Joseph (with Joey as a nickname or just Joe)
Benjamin (my friend named her son this)
So yeah I don't like any weird names, they're all pretty normal.

Date: 2008-05-01 09:03 am (UTC)i also really like shawn (and i'm with you on the spelling).
johnson, elijah and chance aren't really my style, even though chance is strangely interesting.
i also like
Maya
Duncan
Jonathan
Re: hello newbie :]
Date: 2008-05-01 09:21 am (UTC)And yay for liking the names ^_^ I definitely prefer Shawn spelt Shawn, not Sean. Sean looks really... weird to me >_>

Date: 2008-05-01 09:15 am (UTC)You have Johnson, with the surname trend..like everyother Harrison, Taylor, Sawyer, Parker etc..
Elijah with the hollywood, biblical, but real name-name
and Chance, super trendy name..
al you need is an Aiden and you have encapsulated every name trend out there at the moment. (make Aiden a girl and you have it all!)
Joanne- Absolutely hate it. It's incredibly ugly sounding to me, and quite common (as in trashy) where I'm from. Joanna is far classier, though I don't liek that much either. The name 'jo' for a girl just isn't pretty..
Cherise- Trashy..
Cheryl- Trashy
Michelle- Meh, kind of the same as Joanne, but far more dated.
May/Maya- Sweet. Maya is pronouned my-uh, I rpefer the name Mia by miles though.
Marion- Don't like so much.
Imara- Looks and sounds made up.
Nicole- Dated and boring.
Natasha- I don't like man of the nat- names but this is the best out of the bunch.
Jenny- boring
Maria/Marie- boring
BOYS
David- Plain, common, does nothing for me. All Davids will eventually become Daves
Lewis- I used to love this name. I don't have much of an opnion no it now, but I do love Louis (loo-eee)
Duncan- Ugly
Lee- Boring
Jonathan- I don't mind this, boring though
Shawn- Hate hate hate
Daniel- Common, but I quite like it.
Joshua- Incredibly common, but I love it.
Ryan- My cousin is also called Ryan. I don't mind it.
Joseph - Love Joey
Benjamin- Nice.
Your names aren't really my style. Too run-of-the-mill but they're decent enough I guess. Spelt corerctly and on the right sex.. :-)

Date: 2008-05-01 09:20 am (UTC)And lol everybody has their own opinion! I don't like really weird names cos if I did, everybody would be like OMG TOO WEIRD xD
And yeah my stepsister is weird, she's trying to cover every corner of naming kids as she can. I really hope she doesn't have another one, who the hell knows what she'd name it o_O

Date: 2008-05-01 11:11 am (UTC)Cherise- Not a big fan - I can't quite pronounce the end of it, and I keep trailing off when I say it.
Cheryl- I always want to pronounce it as it's spelled, rather than sheryl
Michelle- My neighbours put me off this one - they have a kid that they're always screaming ME-shell at, so I hear it was totally the wrong emphasis
May/Maya- Sweet. I like these, and I like Maya as either May-a or My-uh, although I think the kid would get that second pron. wherever they went. Not that that's a bad thing
Imara- Love it
Nicole- Love it, and Nicola. I don't think that one was as popular in the 80s here in the UK, or maybe I just never met any of them, cos I never knew that many people with the name. Doesn't seem dated to me.
Natasha- I like Natasha, but I'm not a fan of the nickname tash
Jenny- Don't like the name Jennifer much, so it puts me off Jenny, even though it's actually the 'f' sound that puts me off. Plus, that one does sound a little '80s to me.
Maria/Marie- I hear a lot of it, but I still think it's pretty. Especially Maria, conjours up a picture of a Spanish beauty
BOYS
David- Dave just sounds like a bloke in a pub to me. The sound is quite nice, but I've just known too many middle aged pub going Davids!
Lewis - Love it
Duncan- Reminds me of the highlander seris :) don't really have an opinion on it
Lee- it's not unusual, but it's very nice
Jonathan- It's not something I'd use, but I think it's quite nice. Like Jonathan and John, don't like Johnny.
Shawn- Like the sound, but I much prefer it spelled Shaun.
Daniel- Lovely name, and I like all the nicknames
Joshua- Love it, and I don't mind Josh either
Ryan- Really like it
Joseph - Love it
Benjamin- Love it.
The names aren't the sort I'd use, because I'm one of those people who looks for less common names (I'm a girl called Steve, so I also have a higher tolerance for what's 'weird') but I do like a lot of your choices - and I really like you're counsins choices!

Date: 2008-05-01 11:39 am (UTC)cherise - not a fan
cheryl - not a fan
michelle - it's alright, i wouldn't use it though.
may/maya - i like may sometimes, i prefer the mae spelling. i've never liked maya.
marion - LOVE it lately. i wouldn't use it, but i really like it.
kimberley - ick
imara - i actually do like it, it has a nice sound.
nicole - my middle name. it sounds like a filler middle name to me, which is a shame because i do like the sound
natasha - don't like it
jenny - too nicknamey. but when i was a kid i wanted my name to be jennifer so i could go by jenny.
maria/marie - another filler middle name
david - it's my brother's name, i never liked it at all but lately i LOVE it.
lewis - is my last name, actually. i don't like it.
duncan - reminds me too much of dunkin donuts.
lee - it depends on the last name.
jonathan - pretty indifferent toward it.
shawn - i've always liked this name/spelling. but as i'm getting older i'm really only seeing sean so if i were to use it, i'd feel inclined to use the sean spelling
daniel - it's ok
joshua - i like it
ryan - one of my favorite boys names
joseph - i like it, it's my boyfriend's name. he goes by joe.
benjamin - another favorite boys name.
