What do you guys think of initial names? Like, TJ, JT, AJ, JD, DJ etc.

I'm kind of partial to Thomas James nicknamed T.J. or James Thomas nicknamed J.T. I've never thought about it seriously before now.

I also never realized how prevelent the letter "J" is in initial names.

My son goes by RJ which stands for Richard Joseph. He's a third. Hubby goes by Richard and his father went by Rich so we figured having our son go by RJ would be best.

I kind of like them, providing they're like the example you mentioned, where it's a nickname, rather than the given name.

I've known people who go by BJ, CJ, AJ, DJ and TJ.

I think most of them are okay, but they have to flow. All of the ones you mentioned do.

My second cousin is named JW - James William. They're from the South. His dad's name is JR (James Robert) and his dad is JD (James David). I think JW is too much of a mouthful!

I have friends named DT (Donald Thomas), JM (John Michael), RJ (Ryan Jr.), JD (Jason David), and MJ (Mary Jo). I like AJ, JM, and RJ a lot. DT is okay, and I like JD and JT, too. I'm not a fan of DJ (makes me think of Full House) and some of them are a bit much.

I've always been partial to James Michael (JM), Andrew James (AJ), and Robin James (RJ).

Hmm not really something I'd do, just not that common here, but it's not bad.
That said I do have a character Eve Danica 'Ed'.

I don't like it very much, but if it's a combination of the first and last name, like J.D. on Scrubs, it's okay. If it replaces the first name, like D.J. Tanner on Full House, I don't like it.

I think J is so common because J names are so common (James, John, Joshua)
My son's name is Joseph Ross (JR) and if it turns out our baby has a penis instead of the assumed vagina, we'd probably name him something like Timothy James (TJ)

Well, my husband was AJ before I met him, but now everyone calls him Aaron, haha. I just don't like initial names, generally. Exceptions: I went to kindergarted with a CeeCee Slaughter (I kid you not, that is the most hardcore name for a little girl), and I went to high school with a BW and a Teege. Teege was obviously a nickname for TJ, which was a nickname for Thomas Jacob.

I know a CJ, a DJ and a JJ. I don't really like it though, I don't think that I get it. I don't think that I'd ever use them.

i know an aj. her first name is aidan, and it wouldn't suit her at all. i think she was born before the scary trendiness... ('91)
one of my top name combos gives the possibility of the name aj, too. :)

I knew people who went by JJ and AJ but that's it.

I like KC because it sounds like Kacey/Casey, which is a name I love.

The only two I can think of off the top of my head are my cousin RA (Rodney Alan, same as his dad, who goes by Rodney) and TJ (Terry, and I *think* the middle name is James).

And I meant to say that I don't mind RA, but I don't like the combos that are really common, like TJ, AJ, DJ, JR, etc.

Yeah, that is my secondary association, because I lived in the dorms, too, but, obviously, my cousin is my first association because I've known him longer than I've known the term "Resident Advisor."
