Ok, I need help here.

We are finally pregnant after 2 years of trying, and now we can't agree on names at all!

We have already chosen Trinity Elisabeth for a girl. However, I'm not a huge fan of Trinity, and my husband always makes fun of Elisabeth (because of the way I choose to spell it) by pronouncing it "Eliza Beth". I'm giving up and giving him Trinity. He loves the name, and there is no talking him out of it. However, I am trying to come up with a better middle name that he can't butcher. Some of my favorite girl names are: Scarlet, Olivia, and Ruby. Any suggetions for a middle name?

Now the boy names..

My husband is adamant that the middle name be Stephen, to which I agree (It was his brother's name, and he passed away when my husband was very young). Now, remember that I've already given in on Trinity and Stephen, and I love the name Lennon. For awhile he let me use it as "the working name" but after a phone call with his mother he said that he didn't like it at all. I'm really quite downtrodden about this because I've done a lot of compromising on my end as far as names go. My husband wants to stop talking about it until we know the sex (which is still 9-10 weeks away), but I can't stop trying to figure out a name. I had finally come up with one we both liked, Parker, and then his mother pointed out that when he wrote his name last-name-first it would be Dodge, Parker. It made me hate it.

So, I'm open for suggetions here. I'm not a fan of "normal" names such as John, Michael, etc. My name is Renda and I've always liked the uniqueness of my name.

Trinity ___________ Dodge
___________ Stephen Dodge

Thanks so much!

I think Trinity should be a middle name. I just don't like it at all. :/ It sounds kind of stripper-ish to me. Maybe Scarlet Trinity. I think that sounds better than the other way around anyway.

I think the name Carson would go well with the other two for a boy. Or Nathan.

Yeah, that's why my guy and I agreed not to discuss our name choices with anyone till the baby's born...and then it'll be too late for them to have a say, heh. We're not TTC yet (several years from it probably) but we have our middle names picked already so those are the only ones we'll talk about, b/c they're family names.

Scarlett Elisabeth
Olivia Ann
Ruby Leigh

Trinity would be a nice middle name but only with a strong first name. Make sure it doesn't end in an -e sound because you don't want a rhyming name.

I don't see what is wrong with Dodge, Parker... and who cares what it sounds or looks like when put that way anyway??? You are never going to refer to your son as Dodge, Parker are you??? That's only usually in lists of some sort or attendence which the teachers still will say Parker and then Dodge if there is more than one Parker in class. I just don't see what's wrong with it. Parker is a good name. Though I think Stephan Parker Dodge sounds better, but I'm guessing you want Stephan as a middle name not first. Parker Stephan Dodge is good too though, I like it. :-)

Just curious...

The first thing I want to ask is are you Christians? The name Trinity screams Christian to me. Father, Son and Holy Spirit, the Trinity. I'm not a Christian, but have friends who are. I knew a Trinity growing up, and her family was pretty strong in their faith.

Trinity definitely sounds like a stripper name. Since you are the mom, tell him you get to pick her first name. ahha. I like Scarlet Olivia. Or Scarlet Trinity if he has to have that. ahha.

I really like Lennon too!

Makes perfect sense to me sweetie. :-) Good luck to you. And I'm still voting for Parker hehe :-)

it cracks me up that some opinions are trinity = stripper and some are trinity=church. completely opposite. I can't really think of anything good for the middle name, except my fallback of Jane. That's always my answer!

I am not keen on Lennon Stephen, only because they end in a similar manner. slightly differnt, but still that n sound. What is up with Dodge, Parker. was there once a car by that name??

I kinda like Parker and Carter.
What about Nathaniel?

tell your husband that the kid isn't his property and that he needs to get over himself.

i can't believe this is such a common problem!

i really like Elisabeth, i think spelt Elizabeth, although the accepted common spelling, it seems made up.

as for him making fun of the name by pronouncing it, Elizabeth is pronounced more like that. if i had to guess, i might think Elisabeth would be pronounced 'eh-lees-ah-beth,' which i find very pretty. :)

Eli is a very nice name, i think, and it seems to fit in with the taste of the other boys' names you liked, i think. :)

good luck!

Trinity doesn't remind me of a stripper at all, but I can't help but think 'Nice to see you again, Mr Anderson'.

I like Scarlett and Elizabeth as names, but I'm not sure that they go.
I like Trinity Jane, like someone else suggested, but you said you didn't like common names.
Some less common names to go with Trinity:

Trinity Andrea Dodge
Trinity Aveline Dodge
Trinity Augusta Dodge
Trinity Calista Dodge
Trinity Carmen Dodge
Trinity Ione Dodge
Trinity Laurinda Dodge
Trinity Lynette Dodge
Trinity Rae Dodge

I actually don't think the name Trinity on its own sounds at all like a stripper. However I think adding Scarlet as a middle name to Trinity suddenly makes the whole thing sound like a stripper name. "Trinity Scarlet"... maybe just of the phrase "a scarlet woman" or something makes me think of hookers.

I think it sounds nice with Elisabeth, and I think even if you don't like the name now, you'll love it when the name "Trinity" means your daughter.

Would you ever call her Trinny?

Trinity -- I do see where the stripper comments come from, though I don't think it's that bad. And an association like that is the first thing to disappear once someone knows an actual normal person with the name. So I wouldn't stress over that. I think the Matrix association is a bigger deal personally. Pop culture names tend to:
1. date themselves very rapidly, becoming dated names that everyone hates once the fad passes.
2. a source of annoying jokes
3. a little low class sounding

Parker Dodge I have to say, sounds like someone is "parking her Dodge." I'm ok on the name parker, but paired with a last name that a major brand of car... yeah, I don't care for that.

Lennon - I like it.

Scarlet - Nms but fine
Ruby - Adore it
Olivia - Fine, but very popular (in the top 5 in the U.S., I think)

I think your husband should get one name, Stephen or Trinity. And after he decides which one he cares more about, you should get to pick one of the names for the other gender on your own. The other two names in the combos should be a joint decision. (This being done before you find out the gender.) Again, jmo. But you should get your say too.

My other advice would be to keep the name discussion amongst you two only (and anonymous online people, lol). Don't let grandparents, other relatives, and friends be involved and only reveal your final choice after the baby is born. Because it is *impossible* for you to pick one name that pleases everyone, and the only thing that should really matter is what you and your husband think. Hearing unrestrained criticism from your aquaintances can be very emotionally trying, and can make you doubt your own opinions. Once the baby is here, everyone will shut their mouths and realize the parents knew best after and picked the name that suits the child perfectly.

My long list of names I like (http://elemmennope.livejournal.com/286257.html), for suggestions. Good luck! I hope you guys find something you both love.

I have to agree with [livejournal.com profile] elemmenope. We told aeveryone we were going to name our son Festus Pleateas. When we gave him a more acceptable name nobody complained. :P

I'm not fond of Parker Dodge. Too many "Park the Dodge" jokes. For the same reason I would also stay away from Carson and Carter.

Jakob Stephan
Michah Stephan
Gareth Stephan

Trinity is nice. Scarlett is nice. Trinity Scarlett is kind of flaky.

Trinity Elaine or Elaine Trinity
Trinity Leanne
Audra Trinity

I really like Elisabeth Trinity.

It took me ages to figure out why "Dodge, Parker" would be so bad. That's because we don't seem to have that brand of car here in Australia (or at least, not anymore - my grandfather has mentioned them).

But, again on the Australian thing... in our accent which does not pronounce the "r" on the end of Parker... makes it even worse - if said in many accents other than American, it pretty much turns into "Park a Dodge". Even though to me that doesn't sound bad cos I don't think of dodge as a car... if I change it to.. Parker Ford, it does sound funny, so it's probably an association that would come up too often :(

It's sad but I think it happens to lots of people, that even though they love a name, when put with their last name it seems to form a word or sentence. Sigh..well there are plenty of names in the world and I'm sure by the time the little one is born you will have found something you both like! :)

It is my opinion that, whatever name you decide on, it needs to be one you both like. Just because you've "already gotten to name two" doesn't mean that your daughter will be any less your child to name; just because it's your husband's first child, it doesn't mean he gets exclusive first name rights. If you aren't fond of Trinity, that should settle it.

trinity is an awful name, in my opinion. its to this decade what crystal was in the 80s. blech.

the names you have picked out are gorgeous, and i love the spelling of elisabeth with an s, but i understand that some compromising needs to be done. ruby, scarlett and olivia are all gorgeous names, popular (olivia) or not, and can sound great with trinity as a middle name. save it for the middle name, please.
