[identity profile] sifukatara.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
This thought came about when i recieved a really sweet comment in my LJ. i had written a post about nicknames after reading everyone's opinions here in a post about them.

My friend told me if she had to pick a nickname for me, she would call me Gloria. Her reason for this is because she said whenever she talks to me and we're talkin' about TBAA or just our faith in general, my frend can feel my connection to the actress who plays Gloria and how much I myself shine with the light and truth of God's love. My friend asked me if it was okay if she calls me Gloria as a nickname and I said yes.

Before everyone starts sending rude comments my way in light of what I wrote above, the only reason I posted that bit about my faith is because I wanted to explain what happened better. That is the only reason I did it.

Now my question is, in certain situations, for certain people you know really well, what does everyone think about using other names altogether for nicknames?

I don't think there's anything wrong with it. When my mom was growing up, John was a very common name and her youngest brother is named John. 4 of his 5 best friends were named John also. They all went by nicknames. Some nicknames were based on last names, but my uncle went by "Foy" and that has nothing to do with anything...

I know a kid Mike who goes by Dwayne just because there are so many Mikes at my school and someone started calling him Dwayne.
Then in middle school there was a kid who they called "Lincoln" because he liked the band Linkin Park...
There are others, but you get the idea: A-OK.
