whats your favorite extended version of kate/cate?
middle name will be colleen, and i dont really care how it sounds with it, or flows or whatever.
the only name i am opposed to is kathleen, and thats just because thats my aunts name and its not that i dont love her, i do, i just dont want to be naming a child after her. plus, it sounds terrible with colleen. :)
daughter number one will be kate/cate or some variation, what are some good sibling names for the second child? how about a twin for kate/cate? whats a good set? twins run in my family, and it is my generation to have them, so i am preparing!
boy number ones middle name will be john. middle name for a second girl will depend on the first name, we have several options - could be mae, mary, marie, patricia, gray, shepard or samantha.
for what its worth...parents names are carrie marie (me) and john jude, jr. (goes exclusively by jack)
would love your thoughts on all of this!
ETA: how do you think kate/cate holds up as a name on its own?

Date: 2008-04-28 09:57 pm (UTC)Kate seems like it could stand on its own. Cate doesn't have that same quality to me, though.

Date: 2008-04-28 10:20 pm (UTC)i think cate/kate sounds like too much of a nickname to be used on its own. i'd go with catherine/kathryn/katherine, and use the nickname so that she has some options.
i think cate sounds really good with another name that can be shortened -- eleanor/ellie, margaret/meg, josephine/jo, etc. for a boy, i like henry, luke/lucas, sam(uel), max, etc. with it.
my choices for twins would be:
cate (catherine colleen) & meg (margaret patricia)
cate & sam (samuel john)

Date: 2008-04-29 03:10 am (UTC)I would say Katherine/Catherine. I think either spelling works with Colleen. You should also consider whether "KC" or "CC" is a cuter nickname because your daughter's friends may not go with Kate/Cate.

Date: 2008-04-29 05:19 am (UTC)i think kate/cate sounds particularly nice with elise/elyse or alice. i think it's very versatile though and can go with most names.
