whats your favorite extended version of kate/cate?

middle name will be colleen, and i dont really care how it sounds with it, or flows or whatever.

the only name i am opposed to is kathleen, and thats just because thats my aunts name and its not that i dont love her, i do, i just dont want to be naming a child after her. plus, it sounds terrible with colleen. :)

daughter number one will be kate/cate or some variation, what are some good sibling names for the second child? how about a twin for kate/cate? whats a good set? twins run in my family, and it is my generation to have them, so i am preparing!

boy number ones middle name will be john. middle name for a second girl will depend on the first name, we have several options - could be mae, mary, marie, patricia, gray, shepard or samantha.

for what its worth...parents names are carrie marie (me) and john jude, jr. (goes exclusively by jack)

would love your thoughts on all of this!

ETA: how do you think kate/cate holds up as a name on its own?

I like Kate as a stand-alone, but my favorite extension is Kathryn(n/ne).

I like just Kate as a name, but to extend it, I like Katherine/Catherine.

I am the opposite of most of these people, I don't think Kate/Cate can stand alone as a name. However I can't think of any nicknames that I think can stand alone as a name, I am a very give-the-child-a-longer-name-and-a-nickname type of person haha.

My favorite is Catherine, but I really like Katerina as well.

I like Katerina (one of my favorites) or Caitlin (only that spelling).

Caitlin or Katelyn. I like Kate better by itself though. Never been a fan of Catherine/Kathryn, although I do think Cathryn looks pretty.

My favorite is Catherine.

Kate seems like it could stand on its own. Cate doesn't have that same quality to me, though.

catherine/cate is my favorite. i also like kathryn/kate, but i don't like katelyn/caitlin/etc. or any of those. i think catherine colleen sounds okay together, especially if you don't care that much about how it flows.

i think cate/kate sounds like too much of a nickname to be used on its own. i'd go with catherine/kathryn/katherine, and use the nickname so that she has some options.

i think cate sounds really good with another name that can be shortened -- eleanor/ellie, margaret/meg, josephine/jo, etc. for a boy, i like henry, luke/lucas, sam(uel), max, etc. with it.

my choices for twins would be:
cate (catherine colleen) & meg (margaret patricia)
cate & sam (samuel john)

I really like Kate by itself, it does have a few other nicknames in there (Kat, Kitty) so I say it could easily be a standalone.

I like Katherine Colleen or Katelyn Colleen. I prefer Colleen as a first name, but that's just me.

Catharine, with the second A, nickname Cate.

Kate can stand alone, Cate cannot.

I'm not really a fan of Kate in general - I prefer Katie. But, I'd probably use it (Cate, as opposted to Kate) as a nn for Catherine or Caitlin (I don't like either name with a K).

I used to hate Kate/Cate, but it's grown on me.
I would say Katherine/Catherine. I think either spelling works with Colleen. You should also consider whether "KC" or "CC" is a cuter nickname because your daughter's friends may not go with Kate/Cate.

i think kate/cate is fine as a full name. i actually prefer those over katherine/catherine. i have to admit that i do like kathleen though.

i think kate/cate sounds particularly nice with elise/elyse or alice. i think it's very versatile though and can go with most names.

My name is Katherine Colleen. I go by Kate. I love my name, and most people think it sounds very nice together. I prefer Katherine as a first name to just Kate, because I've always enjoyed having nn options.

I like Kate (or Cate) best by itself...but I also like Caitlin. And Kathryn is alright.
