[identity profile] sifukatara.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Since volunteering in a daycare center from 2002-2005, I've noticed a trend of names that were used throughout the three classrooms I helped out in. Here are the names I came across. The ones with a * next to them are ones I really liked.

Madison
Alyssa*
Ally * (Short for Alexandra)
Alexandria *
Samantha *
Sara *
Emily *
Abby *

I only like Alyssa and Samantha and well I can't use either of them because my name is Alyssa and Samantha is my cousin's name, plus I don't like them enough to use them. Even if I didn't have a cousin named Samantha and I wasn't named Alyssa AND I liked them enough, I still wouldn't use them because of there intense popularity.

I love Madison, like Abby and Emily's just one of those cute, timeless names, but I'm not huge on the rest. I know a heap of Samantha's (my cousin's a Samantha) so I've heard it too much to be keen on it - it's a nice name, but it's not one of those names that sticks with you no matter how popular it gets (Lilly's that name for me).

I like Sara, but spelled Sarah.

I really dislike Madison and Emily. The rest are just okay.

Yes! All of these names have been popular for a long while (except Madison, which came onto the scene around the year 2000) and probably won't go out of style (or the USA's Social Security Popular Baby Names list) for a while.

If you want to look at naming trends, I suggest this website: http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/ Have fun! And remember that often times the same name has multiple spellings, so 'Aidan' at #44 is actually more popular because it's the same as 'Aiden'.

I have issue with the name Madison. I think its over used and it makes me thing of the old Tom Hanks & Darryll Hannah movie Splash. I've never really liked childrens names that are also names of places or landmarks, though.

I like the others, though. But then again, I prefer the classic, more simple names. Emily is one of my favs. :)

Alyssa=Elissa.
Alexandria=Alexandrea.
Emily=Emilie.

And then I'm content.
