[identity profile] tryyingtoevolve.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I got to thinking about "cool" names after the post a few days ago about "The names all your friends will think are cool." So, what do YOU think are "cool" names. I'm not talking about the names you like the most, or the ones you're going to use, but which ones do you associate with "cool," whether you think it sounds like a name one of the "cool kids" would have or you just think it sounds cool.

I came up with:

Girls >> (some of these are nicknames, just FYI) Piper, Maren, Kate/Cate, Mia, Zoe, Sam, Liv
Boys >> Dean, Max, Sam, Zack, Ty, Jack, Ben, Luke, Jay

These aren't necessarily names I like (although there are a few I do like), but ones that I would think sound cool or hip without being trendy, if that makes sense. I'm not talking "hip" as in Aiden, Jayden, Madison, Makenzie, but hip as in . . . modern? I guess? What do you think? What names do you think fit this category?

Travis/Trevor came to mind immediately.
I don't really know about girl names...I'll think about that some more.

I think Isaac is a "cool" name on a guy. I think semi-unisex names are also usually "cool"--especially, for me, on guys. Courtney or Kelly on a guy is pretty "cool," as are Brynn, Drew, Kyle, Blair, and those kinds of names on girls (though I don't usually prefer those names on girls). I might be alone on some of those, though.

I've always thought that May sounds spunky on a girl. I agree with most of the ones you posted, too.

I was almost called Maren (Pronounced with a long a like the beginning of Marley - not like Karen). I got Jordan instead.

Maddox (is this a new name or has it been given new life?), Sean, Shane, Shay, Kyle, Blair, Winn, Kai, Cal, Tre, Dre.

I think of some of the Manhattan and SoCal type names as cool: the kinds you see on characters with teen TV shows set in those locales.

Is that Shane in your icon?
