One of my favorite books of all time is LM Montgomery's Emily of New Moon. In the book, Emily Starr has a friend named: Ilse.

It's a German form of Elisabeth, and the name of German princess in legend. I've heard it pronounced "EEL-sa" or "IL-sa" or "IL-za." I'm not expecting and I definitely don't plan on naming my child Ilse, but I think its an interesting name. What does everyone think of this name? I'm thinking it might make a comeback since Germanic names like Matilda are making a comeback lately.

Isn't Matilda Australian... 'Waltzing Matilda?' lol i dont know.
I think it's quite an ugly version of a name that has so many prettier alternatives. My favourite of the Elizabeth genre is Elise... anagram of Ilse, just add another e. :-)
