i like briony, emma, kinsey, lux, scarlett, scout (nn only), and that's about it, though they're all iffy.


the only reason i like kinsey though is because of the doctor, it kind of sounds like a cheapened version of mackenzie to me. and i'm not sure i'd name a kid after a sex doctor. same with lux, the association to the promiscuous one from the virgin suicides would be too much for me.

i don't really HATE most of them but sheba just reminds me of the dog. i assume it's referencing the character from notes on a scandal and when i was watching that movie all i could think about was how it sounded like they were calling a dog whenever they addressed her. it doesn't help that the breed, shiba, is pronounced the same way.

i was drawing a blank on kinsey when i read it. i was like 'i want to like it, but i dont feel like i should...isnt there a sex doctor with that name?' i was drawing a blank. thanks for confirming that i wasnt crazy. :)

i had the same thought on kinsey. i guess it's not the worst heritage but i'm not sure if i'd like my kid to be associated with sex doc their whole life. i like lux because i liked the character and it's just really... unsual.

Also a name from a book that I really like: Ender. Unfortunately my husband disagrees.

I feel like with the name Ender it's better to name the kid Andrew and call him Ender as a nickname. The kid is less likely to develop a martyr complex that way, and he's got a normal name for business cards and stuff.

Emma... love it. Lolita is also a noun for a sexualized young girl... Maybe we can take this back from Nabokov one day... until then, NEXT! Lux is a good name, but do you really want to name your kid after a character from The Virgin Suicides... Scout is a dog's name. Sheba is more of a cat's name...Vivi reminds me of Vivisectioning, which is nasty and cruel.
