Whenever I see someone naming their child Jade I always think, why not Jane? Jade might have been lovely once but it has been used so much that it's generic now. It's going to be the "Marie" of its generation. Or Jennifer. Whereas Jane has endured for centuries and hasn't lost any of its charm. It's feminine, but not overly so. It's not "porny" or "trashy." And its a difference of only one letter.

What other trendy names would you offer alternatives to?

The only other one I can think of is Alexis -> Alice

You think Jane is trashy? I was just saying to my husband last night how i really liked the name--although plain. It would be nice as a middle name.

How can you say that Jane is trashy? I can understand not liking it, but I'd like to know your reasoning for thinking it's trashy. It seems absolutely ridiculous to me, because Jane is a classic name that's been around for hundreds of years.

Jade is my middle name (born 1984), and I know two other girls my age with that name, as well as a bunch of other people in my age group with that name as either a first or middle name. I guess I don't really see it ias being 'trendy', and nor do I see it as a way to spice up Jane.

Jane is nice, sure, but it isn't very interesting. It feels flat to say Jane, it rhymes with pain, and it just feels a bit plain (wonder if they say plain Jane for a reason?). I'm not saying Jade is the best name ever, but I think it is also quite timeless, has been around for a long time, and is classic.

for the record, i think jade is a horrid name. its easily one of my most hated names. i just have never liked it. there is nothing classic about it. its just ugly. sorry.

i like jane. i would never use it, personally, but its cute and timeless.

i think arabella is far more trendy/kree8yv sounding and looking than annabelle.

I'd say that most people consider Jane to be a pretty classic name.

yes indeed.

arabella has always been and will always be a three year old fairy princess name, to me. not a name anyone over the age of five should have.

i agree with you. i think its interesting how we all view names differently, based on our individual taste, experiences and perceptions.

thats probably the biggest reason why i am so interested in this community, come to think of it.

I think I like Jade because I tend to like names that are associated to colors. I love green and I like Jade. I love red, and I love the name Ruby.

I think Jane is nice, but a little too... plain for my taste. I like classic names just not one's that are plain.

Ashlyn = Aislin
Natalie = Natalia
Lily = Lilliana
Emily = Amelia
Jordyn = Jordana
Kaley = Calista

Aiden = Adrian
Liam = William
Hayden = Henry

I don't know if my other options are classics, but I guess their alternatives.

I like the sound of the word Jade, and I like the way the letters look together, and I like jade stones, etc. but I can't help but think of the movie Jade whenever I hear it... so I couldn't name a child that :) It's been ruined for me.

Names that end with "belle" or "bella" sounds viciously pretentious to me. Chop it off.

Jade is such a stripper name. Jane is sweet and a nice middle name.

Arabella, while pretty, seems like the name of a doll to me. I could not imagine it on an adult.

But then I love the name Jane, so it all comes down to opinion I suppose!

I love Jane. One of my best friends is a Jane.
I hate Jade.
I like Jennifer though.
I like Alexis and Alice but I love other Al- names like Alexandra and Allison.
I don't think any of these names are trendy though. They're a zillion times better than Aiden/Payton/Miley/Nevaeh.
