Alternatives to Tryndee names
Apr. 18th, 2008 11:22 pmWhenever I see someone naming their child Jade I always think, why not Jane? Jade might have been lovely once but it has been used so much that it's generic now. It's going to be the "Marie" of its generation. Or Jennifer. Whereas Jane has endured for centuries and hasn't lost any of its charm. It's feminine, but not overly so. It's not "porny" or "trashy." And its a difference of only one letter.
What other trendy names would you offer alternatives to?
The only other one I can think of is Alexis -> Alice

Date: 2008-04-19 03:49 am (UTC)Jane is nice, sure, but it isn't very interesting. It feels flat to say Jane, it rhymes with pain, and it just feels a bit plain (wonder if they say plain Jane for a reason?). I'm not saying Jade is the best name ever, but I think it is also quite timeless, has been around for a long time, and is classic.

Date: 2008-04-19 04:01 am (UTC)arabella has always been and will always be a three year old fairy princess name, to me. not a name anyone over the age of five should have.

Date: 2008-04-19 05:37 am (UTC)I think a lot of trashy people are using it lately, like OMG i am gunna name my daughter Aryanne Keightlynn Jade, what do u think?
It's a lot the same as how Jennifer was once a fairly uncommon Welsh name, but in the 1970s, EVERBODY started using it and now it has no weight anymore. I'd hate to see that happen with other names, and I have hated to see it happen with Jade. Hence my topic on alternative names. Maybe widen the name pool a little.

Ashlyn = Aislin
Natalie = Natalia
Lily = Lilliana
Emily = Amelia
Jordyn = Jordana
Kaley = Calista
Aiden = Adrian
Liam = William
Hayden = Henry
I don't know if my other options are classics, but I guess their alternatives.

Date: 2008-04-20 08:36 pm (UTC)I hate Jade.
I like Jennifer though.
I like Alexis and Alice but I love other Al- names like Alexandra and Allison.
I don't think any of these names are trendy though. They're a zillion times better than Aiden/Payton/Miley/Nevaeh.
