If you were going to choose...

Sylvia Ruth

or

Naomi Ruth

Tell me your thoughts on them also...do you hate them both? Is one better, etc. THANK YOU!!

ETA: WHat other names would sound good with Ruth? Ruth is a definate on the middle name. We like kinda old fashioned sounding names and nothing too popular if that helps.

They sound like "old lady" names, to me.

My thought exactly. Well, my exact thought was really, "I think both those ladies go to my synagogue..." but pretty close. ;)

I don't think this at all! if anything it's Jewish

I agree with [livejournal.com profile] shortbutfast on both her points though.

i don't associate it with country at all but i'm not american. southern (in the usa sense) maybe in that i've met a few southern black women named naomi. in 'international' context, it's just a hebrew/biblical name to me. i like it.

Sylvia Ruth is old-fashioned, but in a very stylish way. I totally support it :)

Naomi Ruth doesn't ring as well, especially if you pronounce it Nay-omi instead of Nah-omi. I've heard both ways. While I don't mind Naomi, I don't think it's a good match with Ruth, and I do prefer Sylvia to Naomi. Plus, Sylvia is a legit name, but not so common anymore, so it's one of those names I'd like to see revived.

I prefer Sylvia Ruth. Naomi Ruth isn't bad, but the first thing that came to mind to me was, "Biblical name overload!" Which is kinda stupid of me, because I see Biblical names side-by-side all the time and I usually don't think much of it. But still. First thing that came to mind.

I prefer the first one. :)

Dunno about any other mixes off the top of my head that work... Jocelyn Ruth, maybe?

Celeste
Shirley
Agatha
Eloise
Ethyl
Dixie
Polly

...These are from a top 500 list... from 1880. ;) I don't think many of them are very popular these days.

Eleanor Ruth
Emmeline Ruth
Georgia Ruth
Marion Ruth

Sylvia Ruth sounds better than Naomi Ruth

Hmmm. I like Ruth as a middle name. I guess I like Naomi because they're both Biblical.
My MIL's name is Nancy Ruth (Which I think sounds nice too)

Margaret Ruth
Jennifer Ruth
Gabriella Ruth
Miriam Ruth

I guess I'm liking lots of syllables with the first name LOL.

Sylvia Ruth runs more smoothly together, but I like the name Naomi better. I hate the name Ruth though--it sounds too old. But that doesn't really matter, since you like old-fashioned names anyway. :)

Sylvia Ruth. My cousin is named Alycia Ruth.

Do you realize Naomi Ruth is very biblical? They're both major characters in the same book lol.

I like Naomi Ruth
However I think it's oddly matchy since Ruth was Naomi's daughter-in-law in the Torah.

I wouldn't put Naomi Ruth together - Ruth is the daughter-in-law of Naomi in the Book of Ruth so together they seem confusing to me. You could try Naamiya with the nn Naami - they are close, particularly in the Hebrew, but less confusing.

I love all the names though...I love old fashioned names - so here are some other ideas with Ruth:
Emmeline Ruth
Adamina Ruth
Irena Ruth
Winifred Ruth
Verity Ruth
Millicent Ruth
Enid Ruth
Glynis Ruth
Aretha Ruth

I love them both!!!

I like the way Naomi Ruth sounds better, but I agree with the biblical root confusing people, so I guess I cast my vote for Sylvia. But both are beautiful names.

Here are some more old fashioned ones:

Margaret Ruth
Matilda Ruth
Agnes Ruth
Amelia Ruth
Edith Ruth
Augusta Ruth
Alice Ruth
Nora Ruth
Lilith Ruth
Eve/Evelyn Ruth

Definitely Naomi Ruth... but it seems a really common combo as I know two other people called Naomi Ruth.

My grandmother's name is Marilyn Ruth. I've always really liked her name, but it's very grandmotherly.

I really like Felicity Ruth or Amelia Ruth.

I really hate the name Naomi, but I like Sylvia. Sylvia Ruth.

Other possibilities:

Sophia Ruth
Amelia/Amalia Ruth
Rebecca Ruth (I don't like the two Rs, but as long as your last name doesn't start with R I think it's acceptable)
Viola Ruth
Aurelia Ruth
Cecilia Ruth
Celia Ruth
Julia Ruth
Felicia Ruth
Louisa Ruth

(I got most of them from nymbler. But I really like Cecilia Ruth!)

Naomi. Ruth is an old-lady name and it needs a younger sounding name to balance it out. To me, Naomi sounds a lot younger than Sylvia.
