There is a professor at my former school who has a daughter named Skatje.  Does anyone know how to pronounce this???  There is another name I saw today, Connlann Amergyn.  I want to pronounce this con-lan, but I'm probably wrong....  Anyone know about that name too?

I'm assuming it's pronounced something like Skadi since I think it's an alternate spelling of that.

Skadi is a Norse goddess of snow, skis, winter... stuff like that.

It makes me want to read it SKAH-tyah, I guess I'm thinking of Dutch in some far-fetched way. Katja would make sense to me, because it's a name. I don't know about the initial S.

I also read it Con-lan, but the subtitles along with it say "My parents are morons". You can't have another consonant following a double, it should be illegal, anyway. And Amergyn sadly makes me think of Methergin (medication to make the uterus empty itself after interventions)

I'd say sKatya. With the K emphasised instead of the s, if you know what I mean.

This is terrible. I'm Dutch, and the Dutch word for 'sweetie' / 'sweetiepie' is 'schatje'. In general, it is pronounced somewhat differently than skatje, but veeery close. And in internet/msn language, a lot of people say 'skatje' instead of 'schatje'.
Argh, it's ridiculous.

If it's Dutch, it is pronounce Skaht-yeh.

I was meaning to ask this the other day, and I hope you don't mind... If Skatje is a variant of 'schatje', do they mean the same thing (sweetie/sweetiepie), or does 'Skatje' have its own meaning? The only reason I ask is I really like it, and am thinking of using it in my writing.

Yes, skatje & schatje have the exact same meaning. Skatje is just something younger people use more often, especially when they're talking to eachother on the internet and such. I guess you can compare it to people writing 'hunni' to eachother in e-mails, rather than 'honey'.
