[identity profile] heartbreakstory.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Well. I'm new. I'm pregnant. Still very early in the pregnancy but starting to think of names. Me & the baby's father have very different opinions. First we talked about boy's names...

He Likes
Solomon ( like King Solomon? )
David
Gabriel
Marvin
Ezra
Joshua

I Like
Aidan
Caden
Dylan
Brendan
Joshua
Tristan

The names are very different. The only one we agree on is Joshua so I think we would use that as a middle name for a baby boy. I wouldnt name the boy Joshua ( as a first name ) because his father is Joshua .. and I'm not into the whole Joshua Sr and Jr thing.

so basically .. HELP!

Joshua is my first son's middle name, and Brendan is my second son's first name :) I like Aidan, although the popularity thing pisses me off (my first son is Jayden and I hadn't even heard of it when I named him), I like Gabriel but wouldn't probably use it.

Here's a huge list of names from the Bible (http://www.ccel.org/bible_names/bible_names.html#A)

I like your boy names, you all sound like my hubby and I, lol. He wanted to name our boys Gideon...and I said no way. For our first I made a list of all the names I liked and had him choose one from the list, so he still felt like he got to pick and so did I (he chose Adrian by the way, majorly shocked me too!). Then for our second we were debating back and forth and finally I just said you know what, I'm naming him Dylan, deal with it, and he surprised me again by agreeing and going with it. After months of saying he hated that name too.

It takes awhile to find the perfect name, and even longer to agree. Good luck!

Solomon - too much
David - ok, but kind of dull
Gabriel - I like it. I love the nn Gabe.
Marvin - I don't like this, but I do like Martin.
Ezra - I like the idea of it, but it's a bit much for me. I'd probably like it if I knew one though.
Joshua - too common

Aidan - too common
Caden - all the -aden names are extremely common, but I like this one best.
Dylan - fine
Brendan - nice
Joshua - still too common
Tristan - I don't like the meaning (which is obvious if you speak either French or Spanish). Sad is not a good name imo.

Hmmm... one source I have says the origin of the name is unknown. The other lists a Celtic origin with meaning "sorrowful." Regardless of which source is most accurate, I look at the name and think "sad."

I like the names: David, Gabriel and Marvin. I probably wouldn't use David though, maybe Gabriel and Marvin.

I really like your husband's choices so I'm no use! :)

Ezra is soo beautiful.

Out of your list, I like Caden because I like names that are different.

I like all of your SO's suggestions except for Marvin, where I always picture that little cartoon character with the helmet. I'm into non-traditional Bible names.

Out of your list, I like Caden (spelled the same way you have it.) Aiden (I'd spell it with an e) is way too popular, imo, very boring-sounding. The others are relatively common as well, and I think Tristan is the worst boy's name ever.

Another beautiful Biblical name (that admittedly has gained a lot of popularity) is Ethan. It just seems like it may be a good fit when I compare the two sets of favorite names. Then again, I don't know you two so I may be way off base. :)

As [livejournal.com profile] makeouthair mentioned, I like the name Caden too. Have you ever thought about the name Caedmon?

Like, Caedmon's Call? I've thought of that before.

the band? haha, i didn't even think about that! :) it's just a name i like and caedmon was the first Christian poet in england forever ago... i've just always thought it was a cool name and reminded me a little of caden.

I always think of Starvin' Marvin off South Park.

I like the ones that aren't too trendy: Gabriel, Ezra, Tristan. Dylan Caden and Aidan are all very popular right now... the father's choices seem more long-lasting and not trendy. (Except Marvin, ick! what was he thinking? lol)

I think Gabriel is a pretty good melding of your two tastes- it's kind of trendy, yet biblical. Have you considered Jadon? Very similar to Aidan and Caden, but is also a minor Biblical character so your SO might like it. :)

He Likes
Solomon- Sol is a cute nn but i dont like Soloman
David- ehhh... so boring.
Gabriel- Now i'm really torn on this one. I do like it but it sounds too much like Gabrielle, so i think of it as feminine
Marvin- The paranoid Android! I love it! But i dont think i could inflict the name on my baby!
Ezra- I really like this name, only because i know someone with the name & it does work well.
Joshua- Love it

I Like
Aidan- Like it but ohhh sooo popular. your baby will be one of many!
Caden- It's okay
Dylan- Not too fond.
Brendan- Love it.
Joshua- Love it.
Tristan-Like it.

Overall i do like your names better, but they are very trendy/popular names. You may not care about that, which is all good. You do seem to have very different styles.. good luck!

Except for Marvin, I think your SO has good taste! I much prefer more classic names over trendier ones like you mentioned (no offense).
As for other Biblical names (that I haven't seen mentioned so far, I don't think), there's Rueben (or Ruben), Asher, Jonas, Simon, James, Jesse, Jael, Stephen, Samson (there's some baggage with that name, though), Aaron, Daniel, and Judah.

Solomon- too "royalty huff huff" for me. Like seriously, heres my five year old boy named Solomon. It just doesn't fit. What would be his nick name? Soul?
David- very traditional and cute. There aren't enough Davids nowadays. Very cute. "Dave" :)
Gabriel- Ehhh... I like the nickname "gabes" a lot for a boy or girl, but its kind of a sissy name in my opinion.
Marvin- here I imagine a science nerd or Marvin Gaye.
Ezra- sounds like a brazilian model to me. A female one.
Joshua- Can't go wrong with Joshua. Unless you know of a Josh/ua that you aren't fond of.

I Like
Aidan- Adorable. But waaaaay too popular. I think that by the time your Aidan goes to kindergarten his entire class will have 4 Aidans. Kind of like my brother's class had five Matthews back in the day.
Caden- wussy.
Dylan- never liked the name.
Brendan- my favorite name of all timeeeeeeeeeeee. :D woo hoo! Its irish and strong and adorable.
Tristan- so romantic. I love this name.

gabriel, ezra, dylan and tristan are great names. love ezra, its unique but still classic and meaningful. i agree with you on the sr. and jr. thing. my brother is a jr and hates it, and im just not into it. good thing my fiance isnt either. :)

gabe is one of my favorite nicknames, i love it. and now, on second glance, i think solomon kind of has potential. but marvin? as in, marvin the martian? seriously? blech.

how about noah, elias, jeremiah, micah, or asa?
