So I was watching the news and 2 twin girls were finally found after their father basically kidnapped them. The fathers name was Luis, and both girls were named Luisa but with different middle names (one was luisa marie but i dont remember the other one). Also Someone at work had a relative who just gave birth to twin girls and I cant remember their names exactly  but basicaly it was along the lines of kayla-lynn and another name that was VERY similar to kayla. soo soo similar. I don't think I could ever do that to my kids. Does anyone here think that its OKAY to name kids this way? I feel like you're tryingto make them into one person.

I don't agree with giving kids really similar first names. That said...

As far as the same first name goes, it could be a cultural thing. For example, my dad's first name is Joseph. My grandpa's first name is Joseph. My other grandpa's first name is Joseph. My best friend growing up's dad's name was Joseph. None of them went by Joseph, but for all of them, it was technically their first name.

I think what you're describing is a little different from having two siblings with the same name. I have an uncle who gave his first son his name and the first daughter's name was my aunt's name. But having two sisters with the same name is something else entirely.

Yeah, but I guess what I'm trying to say is, their first names might officially be the same, but they go by their middle names almost exclusively.

I think it might not be an unusual thing for Latino families to have kids with the same first name. I know I have seen it before.

On another note, I adore the name Luisa / Louisa (but said the Spanish way)

It's something that is common and widely accepted among various cultures, but I personally would not give siblings/multiples similar names.

I don't quite like it. I mean, they're already twins and you're just making it worse by giving them either the same name or similar sounding names. =/ The individuality factor kinda goes away.

Its not my thing. My husband, myself and my Daughter all have names starting with R. That was not planned though.

Well, my Mum is a (fraternal) twin, and she and her sister were always opposed to 'twinnie' stuff. On the other hand, I had friends who were almost identical twins, who consciously chose to be similar... I guess it depends on their personality, but for that reason, I wouldn't name them too similarly as then it is up to them how similar they are... :¬)

I agree that some personalities can pull it off. I know twins named Jane and Joan. They looked alike, dressed alike, laughed alike, insisted on being exactly like each other! They are in their 60's now and it has worked for them throughout their entire lives.

I´d never do that !

they are two persons and should have different names

I mean there are millions of names out there and you could find similar names without beeing too similar...e.g same meaning , same first letter, etc

I saw a mother with twins and their names were NOEL and LEON
IMO thats still ok...as you dont recognize it as they are pronounced different but have something in common :)

I think it's stupid personally..

I know sisters called Mary-Anne & Mary-Jane, it's just stupid i think, no thought put into it at all really.

Plus i know a girl called Erika, her brother is Erik and the dad is Erik. Fail.
