[identity profile] scottish-diva.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
We got the cat in the below post.

She's already named (which i think is rubbish - but she's 8 months old and has been used to her name so i'd rather not change it)

Her name is Timba WDYT?

It sounds like somebody likes the Lion King and couldn't decide on naming the cat Simba or Timon =P

especialy of you like a name that has a similar sound (starting in T or ending in A) It's not to hard for them to pick it up, so Layla might still work, same # syllables and ends the same =)

It's cute, although I agree, it reminds me of the lion king, It also makes me think of steel drums, for a reason I can't quite put my finger on...

Because a Timbal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timbal) is a kind of drum. =D

Any chance the family you got her from is Hispanic? Timba is actually a Cuban musical style.

Reposted for my bad HTML!

At 8 months you can DEFINITELY rename her. I got my kitten when she was 6 months, and until then they'd just called her 'kitten', lol. Her name is Isis.

My suggestion to people is play around with names. Call her different names, see what she'll come to and go from there.

Isis was what I wanted her name to be, but when I said it and she came to me? I knew that WAS her name.

We got my cat at the Humane Society when she was around 8 months - 1 year. Her name was Kristi there. I changed it to Magnolia (Maggie nickname) and she picked it up real quick!

Timba is pretty cute though!

I thought someone posted here not long ago about changing the name of their dog...and someone said that it doesn't matter what you change it to they would still respond?

Maybe it's different between dogs and cats though.

Timba honestly makes me think of Timber, as in long bits of wood lol.

You can change it, it's never too late. My aunt and cousins got a dog from the humane society and while they kept the name he was given at the humane society, he was a stray / abandoned, so he had another name before he was brought to the humane society. He adapted quickly to being called Regan.

Also, I give my cats new nicknames all the time and they respond to most of them.

We had a kitten called Rio for two years before my little brother decided to start calling her Panda (still not entirely sure why...) but she always responded to either name - I think it was more about tone of voice with her.

But I like Timba, I think it's kinda cute. Makes me think of Timberland, but that's about it.

I'm with everyone else--Timba's not a bad name, but if you'd really prefer Layla or Ariel, it's not too late. My dog actually responds to some of her nicknames better than her "real" name--she's almost 6 and gets new nicknames all the time.

My cats also know their "last" names--they're Isis A. Pandori and Baba Ganouj, usually just Isis and Baba. When they're in trouble, they get Miss Pandori and Mr. Ganouj, and they know very well who's being scolded (and what for, but that doesn't seem to deter them from doing it again later). Isis was renamed when we got her at 6 months old, and we went through a transition period for a couple weeks where we either called her Midnight (her old name), Isis, or Midnight-Isis.

Cats do not get attached to names as dogs do. Feel free to rename her.
