a frequent customer at my job and his wife are expecting their first child this summer. his name is something pretty common and simple, Edward, and his wife's name is the same, Joanne. i asked him if they had come up with any names for their daughter... he said that their number one pick is Sabina.

i'm not really a fan of it. does anyone have any background info on it?

i dont' like the name sabrina. i'm not sure why. i have a friend who just had a baby in january named sabrina.

I like it, although I like Sabine better. It comes from the Rape of the Sabine Women tale, an ancient Roman myth. Wikipedia has a page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rape_of_the_Sabine_Women) about it.

I have a cousin named Sabine and she's German. It's pronounced somewhere between the French Sabine and Sabina ... like sa-BEE-neh.

I think that's the name of my niece's stepmother's sister, but it's pronounced Sa-BINE-ah. Not that keen on it personally.
