[identity profile] crzydimond.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Ok so I just posted, but I have a few questions I wanted to ask.

Firstly on the topic of guilty pleasure names; I was wondering if anyone had ever had a GP name that they actually ended up using on a child?
Or maybe you have one that you definitely plan on using?

Is there any name you absolutely loved, but was talked out of using by someone?
Is there any name you absolutely love, and used even though many people told you they thought it was god awful?

I love love love the names Harriet for a girl and Thatcher for a boy, but I'm frequently told that they're awful and I shouldn't use them. If my SO was open to the idea, I'd still use Harriet, even though my mom would flip a shit, but I don't think I'd use Thatcher, even though I really really like it.

I think Thatcher is great.

Me three;) But I don't know if I want to saddle a child with that name. I don't know. I do like the sound of it, though, and I especially love the nickname Thatch.

I love the name Atticus and constantly get flack for it. Most of my girl names don't illicit a negative response but Rhiannon also riles people up.

Oh well! My SO would really have to have a shit fit for me to give up those names...or if they absolutely didn't work with the last name....

If I ever have a daughter, her first name WILL BE Blair, no matter what anyone else says. I know a lot of people hate the name but it's been my favorite for pretty much my whole life.

I also like Cybil, but a lot of people hate it because of some horror movie I've never heard of called Sybil.

It wasn't a horror movie. It's based on the true story of a woman with split personality, she had sixteen distinct personalities which is the most ever recorded. It's an excellent book, and the movie's alright.

my biggest guilty pleasure name is pippa. i may use it still. i am on the fence. its probably my favorite name of all of the ones on my list, but it has that guilty pleasure aura about it. i just absolutely adore it. i cant think of a name i like better. but, it doesnt really fit into my normal requirements - ages well, etc.

I'm only 15 and definitely not pregnant, but I have plenty of GPs:

Ariadne (AU-ree-AUD-nee; my fave GP, even if the girl did sleep with her brother) and Weyland (which, in the Troy Game series by Sara Douglass is the reincarnated Asterion the Minotaur, aka Ariadne's brother), so if later on down the road I want an Ariadne or a Weyland, I'll have to choose between the two (because otherwise my poor children will have to deal with the implications of their names' pairings).

Oh well.

I really love Tuesday, and even though it's a legitimate name, people say it's horrible and they'll get made fun of and blah blah. I used to think I'd actually use it, but I don't know anymore. Not that they really influenced me, there's just other names that I like more.

I like Knight for a boy. I haven't told anyone this, so no one has said anything about it.

My guilty pleasure names are Ptolemy and Jean-Baptiste, and I definitely won't use them. Well, maybe on cats.

Everyone seems to hate Theodora, but I love it, and would seriously consider using it. But my future spouse would likely hate it, so... yeah.

Theodora with the TH sound (like in Theodore), or a silent H?

My friend's name is Teodora (she's Serbian), and while the proper pronounciation is TAY-o-dora, we called her TEE-o-dora (because the proper sounds better with an accent, haha). I think it's a gorgeous name.

I still like Evelynora even though everyone else hates it. I don't really see the difference to Eleanora...

My main GP is Wednesday, much like one of the commentors who likes Tuesday. I'd probably never use it, mostly because of the Addams Family references (or even being stereotyped because of the poem 'Monday's Child' - Wednesday's child is full of woe...), but I really, really love it.

For a boy, I'd say Harmen - which I'd use no matter what anyone said IF I hadn't already decided on Morgan (I hate Morgan as a girl's name). I guess all this does depends on my future husband too, I guess. xD

My GP is Wednesday, too. But when I brought it up to my husband, he said, "Like that creepy girl from the Addams Family? We don't want a daughter like that." and it shut me up right there. I always just thought Wednesday was misunderstood, and I liked her as a character, but obviously others don't.

I used to play with him that I wanted seven children, one to be named after every day of the week.

I loved Wednesday, too. She's always been my favourite Addams Family character, and I agree, I think she was misunderstood. I guess people just see all the things she used to do and be freaked out.

Haha, seven children named after the days of the week. I don't mind Friday as a name, but I don't think Saturday or Sunday would sit well with me.

Mine has always been Summer Rose. I would use it if I could. I've even considered making it my pen name.

Prism and Eulalia

Eulalia will probably never get used, but might make it in there somewhere as a middle name if we manage to have 3 more daughters. Prism, well, I came up with this as joke about a year ago and then realized I loved it and now my fiance loves it even more than me and it'll probably end up getting used if we have 2 more girls. We've already picked out our next daughter's name.

We did use my cat's name as mn for our daughter, but I guess that's different than a gp name. MY name is Meredith Catherine and I did have quite a few people gagging at Edith Catrione for our first daughter, so much so that I didn't use it.

My sister's guilty pleasure name is Piper and I think I'm the only one who also likes it. My parents both think it's awful but she's 100% using it.

I usually get a lot of crap when I tell people I want to name by first daughter Rowan. People are like isn't that a boy's name? I don't even care I'm using it.
