What do you all think of the name Margaret?

Apart from Maggie, what nicknames could it have?

I kind of like Greta, as a nickname. Is that too much of a stretch?

I love Margaret.
Greta is not a stretch at all.
There are a lot of nicknames, like Meg or Margie.

I LOVE Margaret.

And I like a lot of the nicknames that can come from it as well, especially Meg and Meggie.

And when I was little, I had a friend with this name, and I always called her Margie (MAR-gee with a hard G, not MAR-jee).

My mother's name is Mary Margaret. I've lived my whole life on the fence about whether I like it or not. I think it just sounds a bit stuffy as a name. But it has potential with a cute nickname. I think Greta would work just fine. :)

I think that's a very Catholic name. It was my great grandmother's name. All of my grandmothers and their sisters are Mary _____ names.

I want to like it because it's my style of name, but I just don't. I mean, it's alright, but I'm not a big fan.

Meg, Meggie, Maggie, Greta, Margie.

Greta's not a stretch at all. I like the nicknames that come from Margaret a lot more than the actual name.

I love Margaret, and I would use the nickname Meg. Greta isn't a stretch, it's a short form for Margaret, after all.

It's my #2 name, and constantly switches with Lorraine for the top spot. I want to use the nickname Meg.

I love Margaret. I know a few who go by Greta, and I also love that. Daisy is another traditional nickname.

Greta is a valid nickname for Margaret, very popular in Germany. So is Gretchen, and Gretel/Gretl.

In French, the word "Marguerite" means, literally, Daisy, so a lot of people use Daisy as a nickname for Margaret.

I guess other nicknames could be Margot, Margo, Margaux, Marge, Margie, Marjorie, Gritte, Mae. I have also heard Molly being used for Margaret.

I heard once that Birdie was a nickname for Margaret, and thought it would be a really cute nickname for a little girl. When she gets older, she'll have a plethora of other (more mature-sounding) nicknames to choose from. My favorites are Greta and Margot. :)

I love a lot of Margaret nick names (see all the ones listed), especially Margie, Maggie, and Gretchen.

I also like Gert and Gertie, though I think those really are kind of a stretch for Margaret. (I also like the name Gertrude, which would naturally lend itself to those nicknames, but I don't think I'd saddle a child with it.)
