new here...

I am new here, heh. 13 weeks pregnant--I am expecting a baby July 13. Our baby is doing very well and I'm very pleased. One thing my fiancé and I could not decide on was the boy's name. I originally wanted Dorian Jade. He threw a fit about naming the baby if it was a boy, so I said, "Fine, but nothing stupid."

Here are the names we picked out:

Ericka Jane (girl) and Layne Dominick (boy).

We've been set on the girl's name for a while, but keep changing the boy's middle name...it's went from Layne Cantrell to Layne Reznor, and finally, Layne Dominick. Opinions/suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I suggest either spelling it Erica or Erika, but not Ericka.
I like what you settled on for the boys name, I'm glad you've moved away from Cantrell and Reznor.

I'm going to suggest either Erica or Erika... the ck looks incredibly awkward. The combo is nice, though.

Wow... I didn't even read the comment above first.

I like the name Dominick, and it flows with Layne. Both names sound great. And the spelling you have chosen for Dominick is a cute & simple spelling. My stepbrother shares the same name but his mother chose a very strange way of spelling it, and I still can't spell it right, I just write Nic on Christmas presents ect.. :)

I really like Dominick, a lot more than your other choices, and I love that spelling. I'm not a big fan of Layne though.

And Ericka Jane is nice too, but like the others said, I don't really care for the spelling.

ditto what everyone else said about ericka. dont like the spelling.

layne dominick is nice, better than the others you mentioned. i dont like the spelling of layne though, its a little feminine, and it could be pronounced lay-nee (like the girls nickname), i would prefer lane for a boy.

i knew a girl named Ericka. Actually I knew an Erica, Erika and Ericka. Never really gave much thought to the spelling I liked best. They were all snobby LOL

i, too, love Trent Reznor, but i'm not sure Layne Reznor sounds right.

if you were still considering tributing him, a very subtle thing would be Michael (his actual first name).

but i really like Layne Dominick! very nice. i love the name Dominic. :)

I don't like the ck in Ericka or Dominick.

I personally think naming a child after someone in a band you like is a bit self-indulgent, especially if it's immediately recognizable, but to each their own.

Also, I know two people named Layne/Laine, both of whom are women. The name isn't bad - just something to consider. :)

Alice in Chains fan? :]

Why not go with Domic (no K) Layne? I think it flows better anyway.

Whoa misspelling. Dominic.

Please remember that unconventional spellings will sentence your child to a lifetime of correcting people. What do you think of Lane without the y?

[identity profile] krazyhippie.livejournal.com 2006-01-09 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
i agree. the y makes it look more feminine too.

I believe she's shooting for an homage to the late Layne Staley of Alice in Chains.

OMG, how I wish I had this community when I was naming my boy. :((((((

But you're SOOOO right.

ericka sounds to ick ick for me.
and layne sounds feminine or just "lame"

:-/ sorry

I have a friend Ericka so being used to that spelling, I'm not against it.

Also, I'm a pretty stereotypical so being a big Gilmore Girls fan (see: icon) I can't get over Layne being a girl's name.

I love.love.love. Dominick though. I'd leave the K out as well....but that's just a personal preference and because my uncle and cousin just end it in "c" as well.
