Oy. I'm not a fan of James in any case, but the fact there are multiple feminine versions of the name - Jamesina as a formal name, Jaime as a spunky name - I just don't get it.

You're right, it is a stupid choice. Could maybe understand it as a mn if it had some special meaning; but for a fn it's just asking for teasing/trouble in school. Way too traditionally masculine.

At least she has a common and feminine mn to fall back on.

James is okay on a girl for me. Madison is definitely a girls' name to me. Joseph is definitely a boys' name.

That's one rising trend I'll never understand. I love James on a boy, though. And Olivia's nice.

I like unisex names on girls, and I even like a lot of masculine/male names on girls, but James isn't one of them. It's just so distinctly male to me.

I really hate boys' names on girls. It just seems like the parents are trying too hard to be avant-garde.

I agree with an above commenter. I like James on a girl, but not Joseph.

i know two women who have given their daughters the middle name james, one after the babys father, and the other after the mothers father. but thats totally different, i know, and i am a big believer that just about anything goes when it comes to the middle name. i would never name a girl james as a first name.

I posted a while ago about people naming girls James. I think it's quite ridiculous. It's so SUPER guy-sounding to me, that I could never get passed it. :(

I actually don't mind James that much on a girl. Jospeh...is that a typo or is that how the name is really spelled? ew.

Okay my first thought was 'why would you give a boy the middle name Olivia!!' Then I realised she was a girl.

My other issue with the name is that James Fehr doesn't flow.

God I used to love Brendan Fehr!

I thought that the baby was a boy with a girls' middle name, but it turned out to be a girl with a guys' name. Ooohhh... at least she has a pretty middle name to fall back on!

Now, I'm not against giving girls guys' names- like Aidan (I'm one of the few who would stick this on a girl, albeit as a middle name)- and neither am I against giving guys names that are girls' territory today- Lindsay, Lesley, Ashley, and Renee comes ot mind here-, but I think an obviously masculine name like James is seriously pushing it. I mean, the middle name is meant to be the "wild" place (at least I think so), and Olivia james would make a gorgeous name.

But hey.

I love James. I don't think using it on a girl really indicates anything except how much the parents like the name.

I actually don't mind this.

I wouldn't have even minded Joseph on Punky Brewster's baby, but I'm sorry, Jagger is an awful name.

It's one of those really harsh sounding names like "Klute" or "Axel" or something I wouldn't stick even on a boy.

I thought the baby's name was James Oliver.

James is a boy's name. Not sure what else to say...
