[identity profile] xbutterflyharmx.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
My fiance and I got the news today that our baby is a GIRL! So now we need help weeding out names. We've been making a list of all the names we like and I have a feeling about half of them are going to be hated here, but the idea is to start narrowing them down anyway!

So here ya go:

Sophia
London
Vera
Josephine
Teagan
Annabelle
Taryn
Abrianna

We also love River and Reagan, but our son is named Ronin (prn. Row-nin) and I think they sound weird together. Agree or disagree?

Thanks!

The ones that you don't like let me know why, we need some convincing!

Catherine Zeta-Jones names her daughter Carys I believe. I really like it. Carys and Ronin sound so cute!

I second Fiona, I think it would be very cute with Ronin.

I like Sophia, Annabelle, and Teagan.

To respond to your question to the above commenter, Carys would be Car-iss. With the first syllable not rhyming with the vehicle.

I really like London. Sophia is nice but possibly too common.

I like Vera and Josephine, but the others are either too masculine (Teagan, Taryn, River, Reagan), too trendy (Sophia), a bit outdated (London), or made-up (Abrianna). I don't like Annabelle because it's too much of a country name for me.

But Sophia makes a great middle name! Maybe some ideas...?

Phoebe
Maeve
Charlotte
Violet
Anya
Tarah

Vera sounds too much like an old lady name to me.

Annabelle would be nice because you can to a lot with that name in terms of nick names. She can be an annie or a Belle if she likes.

That's true, but the name sounds kind of cheesy. I like the names Anna and Belle/Bella on their own, but together reminds me of a cross between Jessica Simpson and Miley Cyrus.

I like Josephine (with nn Joey), Taryn, and Teagan (but spelled Tegan).

I don't like Sophia because it's too popular and... I just think it's ugly.
London is too masculine. And this is coming from someone who loves a lot of masculine names on girls.
Vera is too old-ladyish and also ugly.
Annabelle is too... frilly.
Abrianna is made up.
I don't like River and Reagan with Ronin because I don't like when siblings have matchy names.

Nothing wrong with a made up name. Malandra is a made up name and I like that. I also think JM Barrie made up the name Wendy for peter pan.

No, Josephine is still fine.

It's funny, I always used to hate Josephine because of this weird girl in the grade above me in elementary school. But ever since I became obsessed with Dawson's Creek, I loved the name more and more, because I love the Joey character. It's strange how associations can have so much weight on one's opinion of a name.

I Love:
Vera
Josephine
Annabell
-All simple, classic, lovely names. Not trendy, but timeless.

I Don't Mind:
Teagan
Sophia (just a little too common, but lovely name!)
Taryn
Abrianna
-Some of these are getting a little trendy for me (ex. Taryn and Teagan) but if I met a child with one of those names, I would go "arg, that's horrible"

I Really "dislike:
River- Don't like it on either sex. Can't really tell you why, just do.
Reagan- Reminds me too much of the exorcist, and has become really popular in the past few years. When I went through the newspaper's "Letters to Santa", there were no joke 30 Reagans. And I don't live in a big place.
London- I loathe place-as-names. I think they are really tacky and trendy in a bad way.

i would nix river and reagan. i really love river, but think it sounds weird with ronin.
i really only like teagan off of your list. sophia is becoming very popular & london sounds kind of trendy. annabelle is alright. i've never heard abrianna. i don't like it, but i do love the name bree.

I've always loved Vera; recently posted about it. The combo I made for it is Vera Mae - if you like that.

Outside of Vera, I don't really like many of your girls names. Sophia is very popular and overused, London is okay, Josephine sounds unpleasant, but Teagan is alright.

I don't think River or Reagan sound too masculine. I think if you're looking for a good sibset, River & Ronin work as well as Vera & Ronin.

Sophia - Very pretty. I like this name a lot.
London - I'm not generally a fan of place names.
Vera - It just sounds sort of old to me.
Josephine - Same as above. I prefer something like Joanna.
Teagan - Cute name.
Annabelle - I like it.
Taryn - Ehh
Abrianna - I don't really like the b in it, but I like names like Arianna.

Yeah, I think that's too many R's.

Oh and congrats on the baby!

My favourites on your list are Sophia, London and Vera.

There are a lot of other Ann- names that I prefer to Annabelle.

The only one I'm REALLY not a fan of is Teagan.

I like: London, Vera, Teagan, River and Reagan. I dont think the last two would sound odd with Ronin though using the same initals can look kitchy. (its SO over done with Js but R's not so much)

I really dont like Sophia and Josephine. Sophia/Sophie are so popular and sound snobby to me. I dont think it would work with Ronin either. Josephine just sounds very old lady to me.

I've taught girls by the names of River and Taryn and both were very sweet kids.

I love Sophia, Josephine, and Annabelle. They're all cute, but sophisticated, have great nickname possibilities (but don't NEED them), and are just . . . nice.

Vera makes me think of Vera Wang, and it also sounds . . . eh, I don't know. Too . . . something. Teagan seems very masculine to me, Taryn looks like a kr8yv spelling, Abrianna is too frilly - Aubrey is okay, but this looks like two names mixed together -- and London is a city, not a name.

I do like the other three, though, and think that they are WONDERFUL. River and Reagan do sound too similar to Ronin, and both are too masculine for a girl -- especially Reagan. Which, also, always makes me think of Ronald Reagan, which is not an association you probably want your daughter to have.

I think Abrianna will be mistaken for Adrianna all the time. Other than that, I think most names on your list are nice. I also like London, but it might be better as a middle name, because it's very place name-y ;)

I love London!

Please, I know I can't really control what you name your new daughter, but please don't go for Sophia. It's getting really popular and overused these days. I'm an Emily, so I know what it feels like for you to have the same name as everyone else. It stinks:[

Congrats anyway! Keep us posted
