Girl name help!
Mar. 31st, 2008 08:03 pmMy fiance and I got the news today that our baby is a GIRL! So now we need help weeding out names. We've been making a list of all the names we like and I have a feeling about half of them are going to be hated here, but the idea is to start narrowing them down anyway!
So here ya go:
Sophia
London
Vera
Josephine
Teagan
Annabelle
Taryn
Abrianna
We also love River and Reagan, but our son is named Ronin (prn. Row-nin) and I think they sound weird together. Agree or disagree?
Thanks!
The ones that you don't like let me know why, we need some convincing!

Date: 2008-04-01 12:22 am (UTC)To respond to your question to the above commenter, Carys would be Car-iss. With the first syllable not rhyming with the vehicle.

Date: 2008-04-01 12:37 am (UTC)Annabelle would be nice because you can to a lot with that name in terms of nick names. She can be an annie or a Belle if she likes.

Date: 2008-04-01 12:43 am (UTC)I don't like Sophia because it's too popular and... I just think it's ugly.
London is too masculine. And this is coming from someone who loves a lot of masculine names on girls.
Vera is too old-ladyish and also ugly.
Annabelle is too... frilly.
Abrianna is made up.
I don't like River and Reagan with Ronin because I don't like when siblings have matchy names.

Date: 2008-04-01 12:47 am (UTC)I'm worried Josephine seems lame because my fiance is named Joseph and it seems like we picked a name to be the feminine version of his name. Does that ruin it for you or you still like it?
I didn't even know Abrianna was just a made up name, there goes that one!

Date: 2008-04-01 01:31 am (UTC)It's funny, I always used to hate Josephine because of this weird girl in the grade above me in elementary school. But ever since I became obsessed with Dawson's Creek, I loved the name more and more, because I love the Joey character. It's strange how associations can have so much weight on one's opinion of a name.

Date: 2008-04-01 01:47 am (UTC)Vera
Josephine
Annabell
-All simple, classic, lovely names. Not trendy, but timeless.
I Don't Mind:
Teagan
Sophia (just a little too common, but lovely name!)
Taryn
Abrianna
-Some of these are getting a little trendy for me (ex. Taryn and Teagan) but if I met a child with one of those names, I would go "arg, that's horrible"
I Really "dislike:
River- Don't like it on either sex. Can't really tell you why, just do.
Reagan- Reminds me too much of the exorcist, and has become really popular in the past few years. When I went through the newspaper's "Letters to Santa", there were no joke 30 Reagans. And I don't live in a big place.
London- I loathe place-as-names. I think they are really tacky and trendy in a bad way.

I think River sounds nice with Ronin, but not Reagan

Date: 2008-04-01 02:51 am (UTC)Outside of Vera, I don't really like many of your girls names. Sophia is very popular and overused, London is okay, Josephine sounds unpleasant, but Teagan is alright.
I don't think River or Reagan sound too masculine. I think if you're looking for a good sibset, River & Ronin work as well as Vera & Ronin.

Date: 2008-04-01 03:14 am (UTC)London - I'm not generally a fan of place names.
Vera - It just sounds sort of old to me.
Josephine - Same as above. I prefer something like Joanna.
Teagan - Cute name.
Annabelle - I like it.
Taryn - Ehh
Abrianna - I don't really like the b in it, but I like names like Arianna.
Yeah, I think that's too many R's.
Oh and congrats on the baby!

Date: 2008-04-01 03:17 am (UTC)There are a lot of other Ann- names that I prefer to Annabelle.
The only one I'm REALLY not a fan of is Teagan.

Date: 2008-04-01 03:41 am (UTC)I really dont like Sophia and Josephine. Sophia/Sophie are so popular and sound snobby to me. I dont think it would work with Ronin either. Josephine just sounds very old lady to me.
I've taught girls by the names of River and Taryn and both were very sweet kids.

Date: 2008-04-01 04:56 am (UTC)Vera makes me think of Vera Wang, and it also sounds . . . eh, I don't know. Too . . . something. Teagan seems very masculine to me, Taryn looks like a kr8yv spelling, Abrianna is too frilly - Aubrey is okay, but this looks like two names mixed together -- and London is a city, not a name.
I do like the other three, though, and think that they are WONDERFUL. River and Reagan do sound too similar to Ronin, and both are too masculine for a girl -- especially Reagan. Which, also, always makes me think of Ronald Reagan, which is not an association you probably want your daughter to have.

Date: 2008-04-01 09:58 pm (UTC)Please, I know I can't really control what you name your new daughter, but please don't go for Sophia. It's getting really popular and overused these days. I'm an Emily, so I know what it feels like for you to have the same name as everyone else. It stinks:[
Congrats anyway! Keep us posted
