Alright.  My older sister just entered her eighth month of pregnancy, with a little bit of a snag.  The baby is due April 28th, but she (they know that the baby is a girl) is already 8 1/2 lbs, so the doctor wants my sister to come back to the office in two weeks and if the baby has gotten any larger they are going to induce labor.

That is putting a lot of stress on my sister because her and her husband have not finished the nursery yet.  They are also stressing about a name.  They have gone through name after name trying to think of one - and none of them have stuck out in their minds as the name...they are just planning on getting a huge list of names together and then bringing them to the hospital and be like, "baby!  which one are you!"

But they need help.  My whole family has been brought to the task, but we are just not thinking of anything.

So this is where I need your help:  I could really use a good list of girls names.  My sister and her husband do not like trendy names, or creative spelling names.  They like older names, but no names that are so old that it makes you think of an old woman not a child.  They are up for "unique" traditional names, if there are any.

Their names are Andrew William Herdamann, Kelly Marie Herdamann, and they have a daughter Catherine Abigail Herdamann.

So any ideas are welcome!

Well Catherine is my favorite girls' name, so maybe they'll like my other favorites: Juliet, Charlotte, Anna, and Audrey. None of them are unique at all though, they're all pretty popular...I wouldn't say they are trendy, though some people might.

well we have an aunt who is Julie and his mother is Anne... and they want to avoid passing down names as first names, middle names are fine. (they are so picky I swear... haha).

Kelly wanted to name her Audrey... but Andy said no because he does not like Breakfast at Tiffany's... Kelly and I were like, you are weird.

they both really like Elizabeth - so that is what she will be named if they think of nothing else... but they just do not want to settle for a name.

I really like Joanna actually... very feminine but the baby can easily have a nickname.

they called the baby Alice for a while... but that one never stuck... I like Nora and Ruby though... Kelly and I both love the name Lily... but thankfully Andy doesn't - so it leaves it open for me!

I suggest she do a little research rather than stress about names and nurseries. Ultrasound can be up to four pounds off in weight estimates - it's not at all accurate. There's a good chance she's setting herself up for a baby in the NICU. And even if the baby is larger than average.. what's the big deal?

well her first baby was over nine pounds and the birth was really hard on her and Katie (my niece) - they both ended up in ICU because of it - so the doctors are just being proactive, Kelly would rather leave a C-Section as a last resort and would like to do a natural birth again. But the doctor will not induce her unless there is significant weight gain in the two week period. And the baby would only be a little under two weeks early if they did have to induce

I agree about the U/S possibly being off, and every baby is different, yadayada... BUT, I was induced for pre-e with my son, two weeks early and he was just fine! So, if it's best for the momma and baby, I hope all goes well!

The lists of names already posted are probably overwhelming, so I'll just say to tell your sister not to stress so much over the name. If they don't have it in time for the birth that's perfectly fine. I think something will come much easier to them when they physically have the baby with them.

I think the majority of names have been posted here, I'll just mention my favourites, Audrey, Eliana and Annabeth.

My cousin had a similar problem and in the end they decided on Grace, which was a name they settled on. They called the baby Grace but it never quite stuck, and ten days after she was born she started to show her true character and they suddenly decided her name was to be Sophie--and it fit like a glove! Sometimes you have to let the child tell you the name. Tell your sister not to worry too much. Her daughter won't remain nameless. :)

that is what we tell her... so she will probably just go around for the last week of her pregnancy talking to the baby with different names like she did the last time... but knowing my sister and Andy they will again wait until the day they leave the hospital to decide. oi.

thank you so much! that actually was a lot of information from all those women and I know that a majority of women have no issues giving birth to large babies. I think that her doctor is just trying to stay on top of it because of what happened with her first daughter, and because that happened with our mother as well. I guess it all has to do with personal and family history.
