How did you decide on your kid's/kids' name(s)? Family name? Did you argue with your significant other about it?

My parents named me after a literary character (Melanie-GWTW) they picked her because (according to my dad) she exhibited characteristics they wanted thier daughter to have. My middle name (Suzanne) was a variation of my mom's best friend Susan.

For me, my daughter is named Lily Kathleen. I kept the tradition of my parents and named after Lily Evans Potter (HP) and my best friend whose name is Kathleen.
I think I'm going to try and keep this tradition with any additional children I have (First name (book), Middle name--friend)but in all honesty if a name strikes me I may just use that instead of sticking to strick naming patterns.
