It's an Israeli name, usually spelled Meirav in English. Definitely female.

It's one of those names that has to grow on you. It's not a name you love on first hearing, but it fits some people really well.

Haha. That was a name I used for business purposes a while back. It was my ex-boyfriends sisters name (She spelled it Merav), and I always loved it. I was working for a Jewish company that signed people up for credit cards that gave money to Israeli charities, so using my real name (Christina) wasn't helping too much.
