my list of name choices are a bit strange- im an anglo living in a french province so i have to make sure that the names we pick work in french first and formost, but of course its really important that they work in english too. i came across the name "Micheline", pronounced 'Mish-leen'- its SO COOL in french, but im not sure it works in english. opinions?

edit: i had to google the tire thing, since i dont have a car and dont get the reference- is it really a popular thing? oh well. back to the drawing board! :)

It's very rare and old-fashioned in Europe.
Sorry, not a fan of how it sounds in either language :) but it is a perfectly legit name!

All I can think of is Micheline Tires.

She spelled it wrong. Its "Michelin" brand tires, and its pronounced entirely differently. I say go with it. C'est très charmante.

I don't LOVE the name, but I think it works fine. I have an English professor with this name.

I had a student with this name. I think it's pretty, even if it is the name of a tire company.

I didn't think of Michelin tires, even though I have been calling my brother Michelin Man a lot lately.

I am not a fan of the sound. I don't really like the Mish sound.

Hmm, I agree with everyone else on the whole tire thing. There are plenty of other French names that work with English, too--I'm really fond of Amelie!

Sorry, but you are pronouncing it incorrectly. I am French-Canadian, and that's my aunt's name. It's not Mish-leen, it's ME-shlyn. In French Canada, it is a more traditional name, but I've always liked it.

I think that is a beautiful name. I did not think of the Michelin man when I first saw it, and I wouldn't worry that a whole lot of others around your area are going to either. I'm assuming it's a girl - so there's some of my favorites for a girl. They are all of french origin, but are easily pronounced in english. *nods*
