As we get closer to our wedding and closer to TTC, I'm feeling myself getting more sentimental. I've decided I don't absolutely hate my fiance's name anymore and it might be nice to have a 'IV'. I still don't care for his first name, Albert, but his middle name, Edward, has grown on me; we actually plan on using it as a middle name even if we don't use the whole name. Anyway, we were discussing nicknames as we don't care for Albert and that's what his dad goes by. My fiance said we could use Ed or Eddy and I said absolutely not-- if it's Edward, it's EDWARD, but then I thought of the name 'Ward'. What do you guys think? Too 50s? I think it's kind of cute.

Anyone else get frustrated with naming after people? I really love my fiance and think it'd be sweet to carry on his name; on the other hand I don't want to name a child after my father-in-law. FWIW, his father is terminally ill and it could be a nice gesture to carry on the name.

His sister also wants to use the name, which makes it hard because we need to either give her the go-ahead or not, but we're not sure. I think we should have first dibs at least, since it's my fiance's name. I think I've mentioned before that if we don't use the name for a son, we're using it for a dog, so it's up to her if she really wants her son to have our dog's name. Is it horrible that her husband's name (which he doesn't go by but still..) is another hypothetical dog name we have picked out?

Renaming..

My fiance wants to name our child, who will be born in October, after him AND his dad. Brian Michael-Ray. At first, I laughed thinking it was all a joke. Then, I felt foolish realizing how much it really means to him. I finally gave in to the Michael. I just don't want to call my child the name that I call my man in the bedroom. It just seems weird. At some point I thought it was just egotistical of him to want to use his name, but apparently it's a big deal to guys to carry on their name. However, by explaining, if we have a boy, it will have his middle and last name I dodged the hurtle of having a child with four names, none of which sparked any usable nicknames for me.

I like Ward, yeah it is kind of 50's but in a cute, lovable way. Yeah, it's kind of weird that you guys are looking at her husbands name for a future dog name. But, sometimes it just hits you that that name would work for another purpose. :D Good luck!
