Mar. 26th, 2008 03:46 pmWhat do you think of the name Lowden as a first name for a boy?
It's my last name now, but supposing I ever find a boy who can put up with me, I plan to take my husband's name when I get married. I am the last Lowden in the line, though, but I feel like using it on a potential future son would be a good way to honor the family. So that's why I ask :]
P.S. "Low" rhymes with now, it's not like the opposite of high.

Date: 2008-03-26 09:01 pm (UTC)My last name is Gray and 'Gray' names are getting kind of popular right now, I think I would consider at least a middle name, something like Grady or Grayson.

Date: 2008-03-26 10:26 pm (UTC)Yeah, Gray can be kind of hard to match names with. My name is Megan Leanne, which I don't mind but the double 'G' sound in Megan and Gray has always bothered me. My brother's name is Robert Daniel but Robert is a family name and he goes by Danny. I think Danny Gray sounds fine but Dan Gray isn't great, in my opinion.
But really I think anything with more than one syllable won't be bad.

Date: 2008-03-27 02:47 am (UTC)I think that a lot of surnames sound really nice as middle names, and using them as middle names can be a good way of honoring family, heritage, etc. without saddling the kid with a first name that's a bit too much. There are some surnames that I think I like as first names, but not many. It's getting to be sort of trendy right now...the whole giving-kids-surnames-as-their-first-name thing. I guess if there's a lot of meaning behind the name, that makes it better in my eyes. But people won't necessarily know the story behind the name when they first hear it or see it.
I can't really see Lowden as a first name. But if you really want to use it as such, don't let my opinion stand in your way. :o)
