Wondering...
Mar. 25th, 2008 01:05 amHi! Newbie poster here. I was just wondering if anyone here has had a similar experience as I had. See, I'm a mom of four kids. Two boys and two girls but their ages are stretched a bit. For instance, my oldest was born in 1989, his brother in 1992 and their sisters were born in 2002, and 2007. Now with my oldest, I knew, just knew, the perfect name from the beginning of my pregnancy, but still tossed around a few others, but when he was born, he definately seemed to be a Patrick Levi. So I named him just that, exactly the first name I chose. Now, for my second son, his father and I had many debates over names. The first name we chose just didn't seem to fit, so we decided on the second name we agreed on, thus we brought Kevin Earl home from the hospital happily. With our daughter, it was a great epic battle nearly of baby name slinging. Three times we 'settled' on a name... and when she was ready to join our family, the third and final name we agreed on was Lilah Grace. Now with our second daughter... we never seemed to really settle on any name... and for the first time... I felt unprepared when it came to meeting face to face the newest little love of my life... what to do, what to do? We sat there the next morning... or rather later that morning lol, and laughed together over a few choices... then somehow, a name seemed to float into my mind, a combination I hadn't really considered before but had thought about perviously seperately. We easily agreed that she seemed very much like a Laurel Zoye. So, like I said, I was wondering... is it just me, or does it seem to feel easier to name a child the more kids one has or the older one gets when naming said children? I mean, it always felt important when choosing my childrens names... but it seemed that with each one, it somehow felt easier to accomplish. I've always loved my childrens names. None of them are 'generic' or so out there they get strange looks. And I felt I connected them to family by giving them each a middle name after a grandparent, make them feel like they belonged. They've never complained about their names... though the youngest has a way to go before she has that much of a grasp of vocabulary beyond mama! lol... but I thinnk you get the gist... apparently, I did ok. What do you think?

Date: 2008-03-25 11:02 am (UTC)Kevin Earl- This does not though. Kevin is incredibly dated to the 90's..
Lilah Grace- You hit the trend ahead of time. Lilah/Lila/Lily Grace is such a 2006 name but at tyhe time it would have sounded fresh and pretty.
Laurel Zoye- How is Zoye pronounced? I really like Laurel.. a new alternative to Laura & Lauren.

Just because you don't know anyone else with that name it doesn't mean it wasn't popular.
Names are subjective to areas & class systems a lot of the time.

I'm definitely not talking about the definition of 'fresh' being a normal name spelt weirdly, I'm talking about names that are legitimate but you don't hear often and sound refreshing in the sea of Emily's & Aiden's.
For instance someone posted asking to choose between Ava & Ada, although I prefer Ava as a name it's getting so popular that a baby Ada would be much fresher & exciting to see.
A name like Alexander is steeped in history which to me makes it classic popular rather than trendy popular which is where I would have put Kevin in the 80's/early 90's.
& actually, I only think I know about 3 Kevin's but that's because I'm from England and it's not at all popular over here- possibly because of a famous comedy duo Kevin & Perry .. Kevin is not someone you'd want your children to take after!
