Mar. 24th, 2008 07:58 pmWhat are you guys opinions on using names that aren't of your background? Like not having any Russian heritage but using a name like Fyodor? I'm asking because I live in Italy and I like a few names common in America and the U.K (Isaac, Tristan etc), butttt it's like...would that sound too weird on an Italian child?
African American Names
Date: 2008-03-26 06:29 pm (UTC)To the OP, when you are drawn to names in other languages or cultures, do you consider their local equivalents (i.e. Fyodor = Theodore = Teodoro, that kind of thing)? I'm curious.
Personally I really like names that are considered African American names, like Tyrone, Tyrese, Keisha, Kwame that kind of thing. My child won't be American, so those names aren't in the running, but they make me happy to hear.
BTW, I'm also interested that we get almost NO mention of these kinds of names in this community. Too bad, I'd really like to hear more.
