Name Help :)
Mar. 24th, 2008 11:55 amMy husband and I are ttc, and our conversations often turn to names. I've had a few names since childhood that I've loved, but most of them have been vetoed by DH. His choice of names however are too bland for me. I like mixing traditional/family names with unique names so none of my children will be one of five Kates/Johns. I liked my name (Tracy) because no one else had it, but it wasn't extremely strange and my middle name was special because I was named after my aunt. DH is all about family names with religious names. I like our religion just fine, but I'm not going to name my children after it. Any tips on how to mix our styles?
My list:
Girls
Charlotte Nicole (DH likes this one, we'd call her Charlie.)
Sophia Grace
Evelyn Noel
Delaney Rae or Mae (both are family names, not sure which one I like better.)
Boys
Colin Andrew
Sawyer Joel
His List:
Girls
Michelle Lynn
Jessica Pauline
Melinda Jane
Boys
Jacob Richard
Robert James
Shaun Benjamin
Joseph Moroni
Michael Nephi

I like your girl names more and his boy names more.

Date: 2008-03-25 02:44 am (UTC)Honestly, I would not worry too much about the popularity of names. A lot of names are only polite in certain areas of the country. For example, my daughter is named Lily and I realize in many areas it is extrememly popular but here in Ohio it's fairly uncommon. However, just about every baby announcement has a girl named Sophia. If you want to make sure to give her a slightly less common name make sure you read birth announcements, talk to teachers/nurses, and friends. They will be able to give you a good sense on the names that are popular where you live.
Sawyer is a great name. I really like it.
Also, if your husband has a special connection with a particular name I would compromise and allow him some input. However, if you both like Charlotte then maybe it's a sign of what you should name your son/daughter.
