[identity profile] ladymela99.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I was sitting at Easter brunch yesterday and my cousin's wife and I were discussing names. Thier daughter is due on July 4. I got all excited and told her she should name her Liberty. I think it's a gorgeous name! They can even call her Libby, which is adorable too.

Michelle just stared at me like I had gone crazy! Am I crazy? Do any of you think Liberty is a nice name? I think it flows from the mouth very easily and has a pretty sound to it. Just curious as to your thoughts.

i think it's rather corny, actually.

My neighbors' dog is named Liberty, so sadly, that's what I think of. I like Libby, though.

I've always had a soft spot for Liberty, but it is too, dare I say, tacky for my other names.

I think it's an especially tacky name, up there with Heaven/Nevaeh and Justice.

It's a pretty sounding word, but for name it's definitely not my favorite.

I used to know someone whose daughter was called Liberty as well...but I personally don't like it. She loved it, though.

Liberty is kind of tacky, to be honest... it's not horrible, but yeah.

Meh, I think its kinda too much with the name and the whole being born on july 4th. Libby is cute nn tho :)

I'm kind of the opposite of everyone else, I guess. I kind of like the idea of Liberty as a name, although having a child named that born on July 4th is a bit much, even for me. I *don't* like Libby as a nickname.

I like Liberty as a name on its own (and *love* the name/nn Libby), but i think that it's too much when paired with that potential birthday.

ehhh, I dunno, maybe if she wasn't going to be born on 7/4.

I really like it. It might be a bit much if she was born on that day, but not too bad; but then I'm not American so who knows. :)

'oh you should name her holly/noel/etc!'
".....*eyeroll*"

don't get butthurt, i wasn't trying to be rude. i was giving a scenario that would make me roll my eyes. i'd roll my eyes if anyone flat out told me what i should name my child. and i'd roll them even more if they told me what to name my child based on the estimated due date.

I really really like Libby as a nn, but I would prefer it as a nn to Elizabeth.

Libby is cute, but not a fan of Liberty. And definitely not on July 4.

I'm not at all a fan of Liberty as a name and I'm really not a fan of it as a name because the kid is born on the fourth of july. Just like I wouldn't care for a Noelle born on Christmas.

I love the name Liberty, maybe because I'm a Degrassi fan. I really love it, esp. with Libby as a nickname.

I like it and what kind of girl it portrays (strong, independent, hopeful, motivated), but I wouldn't use it as a first name. Maybe as a middle name...?

I like it. It is not on the top of my list or anything, but I like the sound. Never been a big fan of Libby.

In the movie Juno, Juno's little half sister's name is Liberty Belle. That's a much much for me, but it is a great character name.

I couldn't name a child Liberty, as that's my dog's name! We call her Libby for short, just like you mentioned.

I like the name Liberty. But I also like America, and Americus as names too. :)
