I like both just about equally, but when I think of the names, I imagine them on very different people. I see Sofia/Sophia as a really sophisticated, confident, outgoing person, whereas I see Sofie/Sophie as more shy and quiet.
Sophia. She could always go by Sophie as a nickname, but it's much more sophisticated/grown-up sounding. I like Sofia, but not Sofie, so I'd go with Sophia, unless you live in a country where the -f- spelling is more common -- in the US, Canada, UK, etc. I'd probably go with Sophia, but in Spain, Mexico, etc. I'd go with Sofia.
I definately prefer Sophia. I like the spelling Sofia as well. *nods*
I saw somebody with it spelled Sofiya once. I'm not sure I like it. It looks like somebody randomly threw the 'y' in there. But if you like it - there's another spelling option. *nods*
So..yeah. Sophia or Sofia. Whichever would be best for you, and where you live and whatnot.
I prefer Sophia and Sophie. Sofia doesn't look bad, but Sofie looks a bit off to me. I waver back and forth between Sophia and Sophie, though. Right now I'm lenaing toward Sophie.
Sofia if you are Italian, Spanish etc or are naming in honour of someone with that spelling. My cousin-in-law/good friend is going to name her first daughter (she's not pregnant) Sofia after her grandmother.
If we're choosing which we like best, I like Sophie. But I wouldn't use it because of the afore mentioned cousin.

Date: 2008-03-24 11:43 am (UTC)Sofie looks ridiculous- Sophia is Greek and means wisdom hence the 'soph' so I prefer that to the spanish version.
It's also my name.. :-D
