[identity profile] title-track-1.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I left but now am back because i'm curious plus i figured out pretty quick that there aren't too many places to ask about baby names or at least quasi-active ones.

Van Ezra Braswell

Written out it almost looks girly, i just noticed that. Maybe it's all the A's?
The middle name is my fiances choice i'm too tired to argue about it anymore and will just let him have it.
Although it fits better than the other names we had. Finn,Wyatt,River.

Anyways, not terribly trendy in my eyes but original i think. Which is what we wanted.
It sounds much cooler than it looks.
What say you?

I love Ezra. It's one of those names that looks girly to me, but I know isn't. Same with Josiah.

Van is...not good. It sounds like a nickname. I don't think it makes a very good first name.

Is there any specific significance of the name "Van" for you? Because anything with Van makes me think of last names (Van Dyke) .

I really like Ezra.

I like Ezra Braswell better that Van Braswell. The latter sounds like a frat boy name to me, or a last name like Van Dyke.

I really like this combo:
Erza River B

I think Wyatt would work better than River. It flows better to my ear. But I agree with the rest.

As well as Van sounding like part of a surname in British English it's a kind of small truck (I have no idea what an American would call a van and I'm not sure how to describe one ...) so it sounds silly as a name to me.

It sounds much more like a nickname or abbreviation of a name.

In America a van is a large vehicle that seats about 7-15 people, or alternatively a lot of stuff.

I didn't know it refered to something different in British English!

Cool. I didn't know some Americans actually use it the way a Brit would (although they also use it in ways we don't). Most of my American friends use truck where I'd say van. I'm guessing that's a regional difference.

I'm agreeing with this! Ezra B sounds much cooler than Van. (In the states Van is the dopey stupid son in law character on a horrible sitcom. Also the name of a sketchy car.) But even Van Ezra is neat, mostly because I love Ezra so much!

I rather like it. I knew someone named Van, when I was little; he was my best friend's father. He was an anthropologist or somewhat like it... anyway, maybe that's why I like it. And Ezra is nice, though I think Van Wyatt sounds good too.

Do you remember the band Hanson?
Taylor (the middle one) has three children, and two of them are named Ezra and River.
/random

Finn is one of the name I have picked out for my future kids, so I really love that name.
I like River out of the rest of them. It's a cute name :D

all i can think is van the man. as in morrison. that's a good thing, of course. :]
i don't like ezra but feel that middle names aren't that important anyway.

I've got to agree with it looking girly, because when I first read it, I thought "Wait, Van isn't a girl's name."

Though it is clearly all male names. Ezra is just always feminine to me because of the -a ending. Which is a shame, because it's such a good name, really.

I like Ezra alot but Van to me seems like part of a Dutch last name.

i adore the names ezra and finn, both are on my own list.

i had a friend in college named van karlo (that was his whole first name) who went only by van, so to me, it sounds like it should be short for something. i dont really like it as a name, sorry. i think ezra finn is wonderful though. i like ezra wyatt too.

Van Ezra reminds me of Vanessa.

Van bugs me a lot; is it a nickname? Short for Vanna? Vanessa? Minivan? I am most definitely not a fan.

Well, um, I was pretty confident you wouldn't name your son a nickname for Vanna or minivan, etc. The point is that the name itself, without the context you've presented, is unclear and awkward. Why not just use Donovan, and call him Van? You said in above comment that it's name-stealing, but is it somebody close to you or just famous Donovans? Because if it's nobody very close to you, that's still better than just plain Van, I think.

i don't really like how van looks, but it sounds okay. i think it might be kind of cool on a teenager. i just can't imagine it on a little boy.

It took me a couple times reading it aloud to stop mooshing Van and Ezra into one name, like a last name. However, I don't think that'll usually be a problem, since people will probably usually hear it first, or just see Van Braswell written out rather than the full name.

It doesn't look girly to me in the least. I like it.

Why don't you just use Donovan? How is that name stealing exactly?
