[identity profile] girlsteve.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
You may remember a little while ago I posted an entry about a workmate of mine called Turdka.

I have since discovered that her name is in fact Turka, and Turdka was a silly nickname that her mates call her. However, not only do all her friends call her this exclusively, but she's so used to answering to it that that's how she wrote it on the rotas at work and what she typed into people's phones when she gave them her number. It was only when someone saw her payslip in the staff room that anyone at work realised that it wasn't her given name.

Now, I don't know about you, but I wouldn't have put up with that...

It sounds like she is fine with being called that, so I don't see how it is such a big deal... My nickname is Boob and I frequently respond to it and if I could get away with it, I would totally use it as my name at work.

Is she from some foreign country? "Turca" means "turkish (f)" in italian, so it sounds foreign to me.

In that case, maybe it doesn't sound so bad to her because it's not her language (and assuming she's aware what Turd means..).

I used to call my friend the Duke of Port New (he was from Newport, I was weird) and it eventually became "Dookie". 4 years later, it's still his nickname.
