I was wondering how popular unisex names are these days? I'm female, but my name is Charlie. I was born in 1983. I think unisex names were somewhat popular in the 80s? Although I think Charlie is actually in the top 100 UK girl's names now somewhere. It's not short for anything, although most people assume it is. Anyway, do you know anyone with a unisex name? The only other people I've known with one are girs called Mickey Jo and Jamie.

I know girls named Mickie, Dusty (I guess that is considered unisex) and I have known two Tonie's. I also once knew a boy named Dana. Unisex names sound much better on girls, in my opinion.

Unisex names have got really popular in recent years. Or rather boys names are being used for girls. Perhaps they were before, but it's become a more noticeable trend lately.

I know a couple of female Charlies, though in all cases they are nicknames for Charlotte. Went to college with Toni, Rohan*, Alex [Alexandra], Ashley and probably others. Also babysat a girl named Ashton.
On another name forum I know of [all girls]....
Avery
Carson & Avery [sisters]
Rio
Presley & Dylan [sisters] (both names actually have really weird spellings I can't recall)
Parker
A few Caseys (of various spellings)

Seems unisex names are more common for girls. Though I do know boys named Ashton, Ashley, Karsen, and maybe some more. I tend to prefer unisex names on boys, my male rabbit is named Casey.

Wasn't actually named Sage, back in the day, but still. That's definetly unisex. Never met another IRL but know of another three; two boys and a girl.

*said as Rowan.

Yeah I know, never been able to warm to it.

As an [amatuer] onomast, I have a real problem with -son or Mac/Mc- names being used for girls, as those mean 'son of' as in male child.

Generally think surnames are very masculine sounding anyway.

My oldest sons name is Adrian, it is unisex IMO. Randy can be a girls name if you change the y to an i, that is one of my friends names and she is named after her dad.

Alot of names are used as unisex names but I don't think they should be.

My name is Andi (short for Andrea), and we're naming our daughter (due in March) Bailey, though I'm insisting on a feminine middle name to round it out. My cousin just named her daughter Morgan, and I know a little girl named Sage. I think the trend of unisex names is fading, but it's definitely still out there.

I had a female teacher whose name was Billie. Jamie/Jaime/Jayme is a much more popular unisex name, but like you said, it's really only among people born in the 80s so far as I can tell. I've known a male Dana, a female named Kyle, males and females named Casey, males and females named Adrian and males and females named Morgan. I've also known quite a few people whose nicknames were unisex, like Toni or Alex.

Girls: Tyler, Alex (could be short for something), Hunter, Wilson, Indey, Ronnie
Boys: Haydn, Ronnie (not so many boys)

In life I've known girls named Tommy, Bobby, Billy, Dusty, Avery (why is this suddenly so popular?), Reagan, Danny, Addison, Cale.

I like Kyle for a girl. Apparently, Alison used to be more popular as a boy's name. It does have that "son" masculine ending.

Well I'm named Jordan, (I'm a girl) and that was the name my parents were planning on if I was a boy as well. My sister is named Avery. I really like Riley, to go either way. I also went to school with a girl named Mykael (Michael).

I think I only know a Toni right now. But I guess the spelling makes it a more feminie form.
