Mar. 19th, 2008 12:38 pmSo two of my absolute most favorite names are Lourdes and Bijou, and they have been since I was a kid. I've always thought they were really pretty but for some reason most people hate them, lol. It doesn't bother me because I love them regardless, but I'm curious as to what about them seems odd or ugly. I'd probably only use Bijou as a MN because I like it paired with Zara, and I like Lourdes Estelle.

Date: 2008-03-19 08:07 pm (UTC)Bijou is the very dainty word for "jewel" in french, which originally applied to rings, back when the Bretons where in the land. I think it's the daintiness and the fact that it's a borrowed french word might make it sound pretentious or exceedingly feminine.
But I find Zara Bijou to sound quite refreshing! :)
Is is ZARE-ah or ZAH-ra? I like the latter.
I also like Lourdes Estelle a lot!! Lourdes is considered to be very catholic because of the sanctuary reference, something like naming a boy Vatican :)
so for that reason, to some, it might seem "overdone".

Date: 2008-03-20 02:23 am (UTC)I'm Canadian, and even though I know that *I* can pronounce those words in a way that doesn't hurt my ears, I'd still be reluctant to use the names because having to hear other people destroy them by the way they pronounce them would probably ruin the names for me.
