Middle name round!
Mar. 19th, 2008 07:04 pmI think I settled on a middle name for Alma :)
(for of those of you who missed my story-post, it's the name we have established for our daughter in the future) Just today we were browsing a bookstore, I picked up a baby names book, opened it randomly, and the first name looking up at me was...Alma!!! I could not believe my eyes :D
Anyway, like I imagined, SO says he doesn't really care for middle names, so he leaves the choice pretty much up to me! Also considering that middle names are not official in Italy, unless you're baptized.
WDYT of Alma Lucilla? :) (prn Loo-CHEEL-lah, but in some places you can hear something more similar to Loo-SHEEL-lah)
It's a name that has come up in a couple of movies we watched together, and it's the name of the patron of Rome (SO is from Rome), plus it recalls Lucy Van Pelt (♥) and Lucy Camden (her character always makes me feel so peaceful!).
Also, Lucilla means "little light" in Latin, so she would be "little light-apple" :) (I wish I could find my old post!)
In the catholic calendar Lucilla is the saint associated to October 31, and I LOVE Halloween and its meaning in the pagan community :)
Her initials would be ALL, which I really like as well!
I'd like to hear your opinions! Also, if you'd like to make middle name suggestions, please feel free!!

Date: 2008-03-19 06:14 pm (UTC)Haha, that whole background story made me like the name more than if I had randomly heard about the name Alma, so I had to find it 8)
Anyway...I think Alma Lucilla sounds good, although I'm not really a fan of names that end in -ille/-illa.
How about Alma Lucia?

so her name would mean: "soul little light" which is cute too.

Thanks for your input! :)

Date: 2008-03-19 10:34 pm (UTC)yes, the pronounciation you're referring too is the correct one in english, I specified the way it would be pronounced here, as we're in Italy :)
thanks again, you're really sweet!

Since we're talking about a fictional child (right?), now I'm waiting to hear your thoughts on boys names.
Re: Baby ALL
Date: 2008-03-20 02:01 pm (UTC)I have to say I fall within the vast majority of ladies who have lots of ideas for girl names but very few for boys.. I guess it's a gender-personality thing. I have just one long-time favorite (Ryan Taylor), but it's so long-time that I don't think I'd use it.
We're waiting for the next inspiration for a boy :)
He's always liked Joshua and Mackenzie (considering he's 100% italian, I think it's cute and weird at the same time :D), also Joshua translates to Giosué in italian, and it's the little boy's name in La Vita è bella (another movie!! hehe all these movies references are funny because I'm so NOT a movie person!).
And, funny coincidence, Joshua Mackenzie is the Hanson's other brother (I've always been inspired by Hanson in many things).
Other names we'd consider are Justin (after Justin Timberlake, whom we both "worship") or Jordan, combining a name from Hanson and Christina Aguilera's husband (yep, you guessed it, yet another idol of mine :D)
But those are just ideas for now that we're not serious about.
However, we would like a J name for a boy, as it's my initial, just like Alma has SO's initial :)
Re: Baby ALL
Date: 2008-03-20 07:08 pm (UTC)Giosue is very similar to Josue in Spanish, the pronunciation is almost the same and Yehoshua in Hebrew is quite similar as well. It's a name I've been partial to in its various guises throughout my life, but there were always at least two, often more, Joshes in my elementary school class. Funnily enough, none since then.
I like J names myself. They have a nice feel to them. Is the G sound in Italian roughly equivalent to the English J? I know a lot of Italian G names start with Gio--.
I like the ideas of matching initials.
Quick personal question: do you mind if I ask where in the US you're originally from? Have you always loved Italy? It's an easy country to be drawn to; I know I am.
Re: Baby ALL
Date: 2008-03-21 10:50 pm (UTC)Yes, G equals the sound of J in Italy, in fact, when I was little and Jessica almost unheard of and still considered totally a "foreign" name, I often got the Gessica spelling (which I hate!) by most people. But since then, the name has had a good increase in popularity, so I don't get that anymore!
