I love the name Diana. I have a niece (well.. uh.. i'm her 'aunt' .. one of those type of family/friend situations) named Diana. She's a living terror, but I LOVE that name.

Yeah, I really do classify it as a 'classic' name. Even if the stigma with Princess Diana is still around, I'll always love the name Diana.

I don't care for it, but I don't hate it. I'm pretty much neutral towards it. It probably doesn't help that the only Diana I've ever met, I hated, but it's just not a name that appeals to me, either.

I love it. I think I like Diane better, but only because it is my best friend's name. :)

Having lived with it, I will say there are a few issues to consider:

How are you intending to pronounce it - Die-ana (typical) or Dee-ana (original latin)? Any name with 'die' in it will be mocked.

Do you have any interest in Roman mythology? It seemed every substitute I got seemed to want to go on a five+ min. talk about the Roman deity Diana (which was really awkward especially when they got it wrong). I try to avoid obvious mythos names for this reason.

Realize most people will want to 'shorten' it to Diane, which is annoying, as well as make it longer to Dianna.

How do you feel about the connection to the late Princess Diana?

I didn't/don't like it and changed me name, but I know a few happy Diana's so it's a mixed bag.

My family called me "Dine"

[identity profile] satunian.livejournal.com 2008-03-18 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I've lived with Diana (dye-ana) all my life and never had any "die" problems. I've been called Di, of course, but no one ever compared that to "die"

Lengthening to Dianna rarely happens, but Diane DOES happen all the time, and it's very annoying because people will call me Diane right after I say my name, and I'm like "Uh, did I say that? Were you lsitening?" No one bothers me about the princess thing, and if anything I use that to help, when I correct people, "No, no, DianA, like the Princess; Diane is not my name."

I loved it ever since I realy about Anne Shirley's daughter in the Rainbow Valley book. She went by Di.
