I LOVE both of those names, but I'm not sure I love them together ... it sounds pretty overtly religious, like the names of some nuns that I know haha.

I love it! I would never consider either name, myself (I also have a personal ban on nicknames!) but it is very sweet. You were looking for a name that sounded cutesy/southern right? I like that the more formal name is, well, more formal!lol and the nn is adorable. :)

well see, when name picking, i want one name to be something that's traditionally considered an Irish name, or one that's a common Irish name. (ie: Mary w/ the nn 'Mae') and the second name is to be one from the Bible (ie: Margaret)

I was looking at nn's for those names... and thought Maggie Mae sounded cute. Something a little girl could go by until junior high or high school, where she could go by Meg or Mary.. and when she became a professional, it wouldn't look bizzarre on business cards. :)

thank you for your input. and since i've never listened to a rod stewart song in my life i had no idea about the conotation with that name.

I don't think there is a Margaret in the Bible. It is a saint's name though, maybe that is what you meant?

I like the names but considering what springs to mind for me is the folk song (http://ingeb.org/songs/nowyoujo.html) I don't think I'd want to use it. Thieving whore is not quite the association I'd want to go for lol. Mind you the Maggie May Rod Stewart sings about isn't exactly a great association either really.

Margaret Mary is actress Meg Ryan's first and middle name, by the way. I personally don't mind the name Margaret, but don't care for Mary for personal reasons. I have to say that I prefer Meg or Megan over Maggie though.
