Just came across this name:

Deromorreon Damonta (long last name)

It made me wonder how it would all fit on an ID card?

Also came across Jeremiah Joseph Lee Blain (last name) and wondered the same thing.

Does anyone on the list have a REALLY long name? Does it cause problems on IDs, SS cards, etc??

not as long as that, but it's a pain in the butt when all three of your names are 8 letters and up, my SIN card only has my first and last name or i'm not sure it would fit, it does fit on my license, though kinda squished.

The biggest problem i have is when i'm filling out forms- I often wonder if it will fit in the spaces they give you.

I am have a friend who was two middle names and two last names. It is funny, because her first name is REALLY short. Her name takes up two lines on her ID, but it doesn't seem to be an issue for her.

I do wonder about people who legally name their child the Lord's Prayer or a Psalm (or some other lengthy passage). Most pick one word from the passage to go by, but how would you write that on a form?

Yup. I've heard of it several times over. It is by no means common, but it happens. I remember one very old man at my childhood church whose full name was the Lord's Prayer, because his parents wanted him to say it every time he introduced himself.

I also read about a woman whose name was a lengthy poem/passage that contained the phrase "Rose of Sharon" (which refers to Jesus but is not to my knowledge in the bible). She went by Rose.

I wonder. I know my name (Elizabeth) exactly fits on a lot of standardized test forms, but my brother's (Christopher) usually gets cut off at Christoph on things like that. It does fit on his ID and SS card, though.

I wonder if people with super long names just get them cut short like that on ID. Hm.

With Christopher being a rather popular name, I'm surprised form-makers don't take a name like that into consideration.

You would think. There were some forms in school that cut his name off at Christophe, too, like every name was a nice round 10 letters or less. (I was always pleasantly surprised to have the extra blank spot at the end of my name.)

It's really funny when you take into account that Christopher was #3 the year my brother was born. It's still in the top 10, lol. I guess that's what happens when government agencies don't communicate.

I don't have a long name, 1st name is 5 letters, last name is 8 but sometimes there are forms I fill out that only allow for 6 spaces each, as if everyone's last name is Smith or Jones.

I have four names on my SS card and it goes on two lines. None of my names are particular long, 5 letters, 6 letters, 5 letters, 4 letters. On other forms, I leave out name #3, which is my maiden name.

I have 6, 5, 7. So, no real problems. I never fill out my middle name, just my middle initial, too. :)

I have the opposite problem - my last name is 4 letters, and in WA, your driver's license number starts with the first five letters of your last name and your first and middle initials. If you don't have 5 letters, it's your last name with enough asterisks to make 5 spaces, so mine starts with OXXX*GL. But a lot of banks and other online forms don't recognize punctuation in a driver's license number, so if I put in OXXX*GLblah, it tells me the number is invalid.

My last name is three letters. I think having a short name can cause just as many problems as a long name sometimes. My entire name only has 13 letters in total.

I subbed in a class with a kid who had a 17-letter first name. It did not all fit on the attendance sheet.

Also, his mom spelled it wrong. I found it written 3 different ways on his notebooks and backpack.

my nephews name is alexander jorgensen (first and middle) and a nine letter, three syllable, tongue twister of a last name. poor guy.

I have a really long name, my id cards just have my first name, then my 2 middle initals then my 2 last names.. otherwise i dont think it would all fit, it would be.. Francesca Nicoletta Linda (11 letters) - (6 letters)

My baby is heading to have a hyphenated surname which will be 8+6 letters long - so effectively 15 spaces and thats even before we give it a first and second name (and the first will undoubtably be at least 7 characters!). I really didn't want to hyphenate the surname so that the child could use just one name at school or on forms etc...but neither the dad nor I will give on which name comes last...

My nieces and nephews have hyphenated surnames of 6+7 letters long.

At least we don't have ID cards here in the UK yet!

My sister-in-law is Holly Christina Elizabeth Maria Lastname.
She usually just puts Holly Lastname or Holly CEM Lastname on her ID cards or on forms.
