Violently hate? Scout! (sorry, I never liked TKAM names, or the book itself, for that matter, but I dislike the names for their own merit(or lack thereof) and not because of the book.)

Why would Francis get made fun of? That's the male spelling. It's like a mafia boss name, you wouldn't dare make fun of Francis! + it was my father's name. But my partner would agree with you, alas.

Aye my dad was half italian, his name was Francis at birth. He was adopted out and his name changed to Kevin, so we'll never know if he was a Frank! Hehe.

I read a book when I was a kid about a character called Bryony, and I have loved it ever since. You're right about Atonement, that's a good point, maybe I'll have to cross it off.

Well, when you put it like THAT. I still really like it though. If you think about it, it's not that different to Nicholas. Maybe I should go for the traditional Slavonic version. Vaselius, anyone? Or Vaclav? Maybe not.

It's an anglified slavonic name. There's a square in prague called "Wenceslas Square" named after a king from the 14th century (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wenceslaus,_King_of_the_Romans), also mentioned in popular Xmas carol "Good King Wenceslas" (looked out, on the feast of Stephen.)

I like the name Wenceslas, but I'm really not sure how it'd work as a first name these days. I think Francis is adorable, either as a middle or first name. Joseph, George, and Noah are perfectly fine names - I don't really feel anything much about them (although George Francis has a nice ring to it). Gareth is kind of 'meh.'

I'm not fond of Scout or Willow, though I can't really pinpoint why, and the spelling of Luella and Marlaina are not what I'd choose. I'm not sure of Romany or Bryony. Lily and Larissa are kind of 'meh' for me. Wow, so apparently, Helena is really the only girl's name that I really like. Heh.

Luella is from the fashion label, it was kind of an afterthought. Marlaina is a close friend of mine, so it has really good associations for me. Other spellings can be old-lady-ified (Marlene=MAH-LEEN completed with Australian nasal Strine) and Marlena (Mar-leen-a)

Romany - Never considered it before, It's kind of cute.
Bryony - Love spelt Briony
Marlaina - I don't really like the 'Laina' sound.
Lily - Pretty, but plain. I've always thought Lily is a bit of a boring name to be honest.
Luella - Pretty, I'd spell it Louella I think.
Willow - Nice, I like it. I doubt I'd ever use it though.

Scout as a middle name - for a girl, no. It seems more masculine to me.

Larissa or Helena as middle names - I know a Larissa who i absolutely despise, and I really don't like the name anyway.
I adore the name Helena. I will almost definitely use the name Helene for a future child [after my grandmother, Helen]

Joseph - Don't really like it.
Wenceslas - Like the Christmas Carol? =] It's a bit...lettery for me.

Gareth - It's ok, My dad's name is Gary which is pretty similar.

as a teacher who's had a student named Bryony, let me tell you how HARD it is to get your tongue around that name. It took me 3 weeks not to call the young lady Byrony. I like the other names though. Except for maybe Wenceslas. Way too much. But that bening said, I think it has fantastic middle name possibilities.
