A Superhero Name?

My husband and I are trying for a baby and we randomly talk about baby names. I thought I would get your opinion about a boys name that he has been facinated with for years. The name Kal-el. Ok, it is supermans real first name. I don't think I would EVER agree to a first name, however, I would consider middle name. He doesn't give me any other ideas for boys names except this one!  I love the name Benjamin for  first name. What are your thoughts?

FYI-This is Nicolas Cage's son's name as well.

In my opinion, pretty much anything goes for a middle name, unless it's something offensive.

Agreed too.

What about Calvin Elliot? He could call him Kal-el, but he'd have an ACTUAL name to go by.

How about Benjamin Clark?

Kalel is a popular Israeli name for boys and it literally means "vessel of God", which the creators of superman did on purpose.
But, I think that most people would consider it to be silly.

Yeah exactly

Kalel

I haven't heard that name before, although it makes sense being close to the Arabic Kalil.

Is it kuf lamed lamed, kuf alef lamed lamed?

Oh hey fellow Hebrew speaker. I've never heard that name either. It sounds to me like it'd be spelled kuf lamed alef lamed.

Hey. :) Well, living in Israel, Hebrew is not so good yet.

I asked around and no one has heard of the name, btw.

i like Kalel, rather than Kal-El.

i think kal-el is fine if you keep it as a middle name. i am definitely in the camp of "anything goes" for middle names. i was also thinking about a name like calvin elliot or something so your husband can call him that?

[identity profile] scouty.livejournal.com 2008-03-12 10:13 am (UTC)(link)
as middle name it should be fine
and if you´d use benjamin he would have a good name to go with ^^
my brother wanted leeloo as middle name so they chose emely for the first name so that she has a normal name to go with

i like khalil but that's arabic. kal-el is just funny.

Khalil and Khaled are two of my favorite arabic names... i'm all for the Khalil suggestion lol

[identity profile] spikes-sexkitty.livejournal.com 2008-03-12 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
i'm of the fan base of using an ACTUAL name like Khalel or Khalil for the middle name rather than 'Kal-El'. that way ppl may think and go: "hmm... i wonder if he's named after superman." rather than the knee jerk reaction of: "wow! his folks were comic freaks..." lol ;-) jking

or just do the Clark one. :)

I think the middle name is the place to get weird or fancy or nostoligic, etc so Kal-el for a middle name? I think that's awesome. And hopefully that would please future daddy. Maybe remind him that this is a name a little boy who may potentially like cars more than superheroes, is going to have to grow up with.

I'm with you on Benjamin. I love it. Its my little cousin's name and he's a totally sweetie.
